I've had problems with the brakes not working properly on my 1150 adventure for the last couple of months. Cooper Sunderland confirmed that it was the Modulator that was at fault. Replacement cost GBP 1350.
I asked if BMW would make any contribution as a goodwill gesture. Before they could proceed I had to supply a few details. Where I bought the bike (I bought it new), details of where, when and milage of the service history.
The outcome was that BMW agreed to pay GBP1000 as a goodwill gesture, leaving me the balance to pay.
So I took them up on the offer. My bike was a 2003 model 1150 GS Adventure with 25000 miles.
I then moved over to the orange side and now have a KTM 990 Adventure.

Let me try & understand this,
So your BMW had a problem, BMW then paid for most of the replacment on a 5 year old bike & then you sold it & bought a bike that breaks down on a daily basis????

:D

Awesome, well done there.:thumb:hide

Symptoms

The ABS/brake warning lights started to flash at the faster rate of the 2 rates whilst I was on holiday in Spain. The servo/modulator had stopped working which left me with 'residual braking'. I took the bike to the BMW dealer in Vigo who told me the modulator was not working and that he would have to order one, delivery 1 week+. AS I was due to leave Spain for the UK a few days later I rode the bike back to Bilbao then home. At some point on the trip back to the ferry port the flash rate of the warning lights slowed and the servo/modulator started working again. So it looked like 1 brake channel was working again.
This was the situation for a couple of weeks with the brakes working on a single channel. I then took the bike up to Coopers Sunderland who ran whatever diagnostic checks they do and told me that modulator was not working and needed replacement.
I asked then about a goodwill contribution and they came up with the offer as in my original post. I have to say that I was very surprised at the level of the offer. Very pleasantly surprised. So I took the offer, had the bike repaired and then changed it.

More symptoms

Forgot to add that after starting the bike up the servo worked for about 10 minutes before it stopped and then residual braking was all that was left. During the 10 minutes of servo brake availability the warning lights were flashing at the slow rate. After the servo stopped the warning lights flashed at the faster rate.
