1150 heated grips

I've just put new grips on my divvy. This has made me think that the grips on the 52,000 mileGS are wearing, by this, I mean that the raised part is in places almost non existant.

I cut the grips off of the Divvy, if I decided to replace the grips, how would i go about this? Or is the element a part of the grip?

I think Mike O did a really good pictorial of how to do this. It's quite easy if you can carefully cut off the old grips with a craft knife, but you will need 2 right hand grips as replacements. Try a search - It's Friday & I'm getting pissed, so I can't be bothered...

Don't use a craft knife in case of accidents (to the elements) a pair of side cutters are best cutting jaws up no danger of element damage and DON@T use hairspray to put them on they go on quite ok without and also easier to get off again.

I just removed and replaced the grips last night.
* good luck removing the allen bolt...mine was tight as a ... you may have to heat it with hot air (eg embosser, hair dryer) and even then...
* if you do a search there is a nice pictorial "Get a grip" (old one, not mine)
* try putting air compressor between grip and handle
* peel the grip from the inside to outside and as you pull cut the old grip with a craft knife (this way you can't cut the heating elements).
* go slow at the end...if they used glue to install you'll have to scrape the rubber off

* when replacing the grip make sure you pull all the way to the inside and 'pop' the new grip over the end of the handle (needs a little encouragement)

Just done this tonight, very simple and the grips were about a £5 each from Motorworks.

I did use the hairspray, it made it easier than an easy thing but spray plenty on both the handlebar and inside the grip. First try I just did the grip and it got stuck meaning I had to rapidly peel it back off!

55,000 from the first set of grips so these should outlast the elements.
