Hi all,

Currently in the market for a 1150gs or 1150GS Adventure if I am lucky enough to find one in my budget range here in Ireland.

Can anyone tell me whats the difference with an SE and the other models in the 1150 range? I wont be able to afford the 1200 so just focusing on the 1150.

Thanks for your help and please excuse my ignorance.

:)

Main differences -

1150 twin seat which is adjustable , standard sized tank, lower suspension than the Adventure meaning better for shorter peeps.

1150 ADV single seat unit thats not adjustable, different rack and grab rail, Taller suspension making it sit higher, larger tank

Same engine in both but the older ones were single spark while the newer ones from 2002 I believe were twinspark, denoted by the writing on the plastic plug covers.

SE was a 2005 model in white, and was the last of the 1150's

Some 1150's have servo brakes, some don't.

Spend a bit of time browsing the site, most of the answers can be found on here - don't discount the 1100's either ;) Out of the 5 GS's I've had , the 1100 anniversary with 50k on the clock was the one I wished I'd kept.... :beerjug:

Thank you very much Bryn! Appreciate the info.

I quiet like the Adventure because of the higher seat and tank range, hopefully I will find one in my price range.

In the mean time I have a lot of researching to do here :)

How tall are you?

Be advised that the GSA is a beast. I had an SE before and even with lower shocks and a lower seat the bike was just too much for me.

I now have a white 1100GS with a GSA SE tank on it. The bike just fits me so much better and I can't really explain why.

Must admit with my 29 and a bit inside leg, an 1150 GSA with a lower seat, wouldn't want it to be any taller.... and riding around on my work bike, an FJR1300 reminds me a lower bike is a lot better at low speed...less to think about ;)

Maybe the next upgrade will be a 1200GS SE to get the benefit of the wire wheels and natty paint job.... the GSA fuel range is great but can't see me going many places where fuel is that scarce, and after around 120 miles or so its nice to get off and have a stretch anyway :rob

Hardly any difference between the bikes. Most noticable is higher suspension, and if you never go off road it's pointless.

Absolutely everything is interchangeable from a standard GS to an ADV. If you carry a pillion they mostly prefer the standard GS twin seat arrangement. And if you don't carry a pillion you can remove the rear seat and fit a carrying plate to load it up better.

I have a standard GS with an ADV fuel tank, as do lots of others. Plus i have the higher top gear, which will save you £5 everytime you fill up a 32 ltr tank over the adv lower top gear due to lower engine revs = higher geared box does 500 less revs at the same speed
