Have been trying to replace rear shock on my 1150, without much success. There appears to be an insert in the lower left hand mounting point on the para lever arm (looking at the bike from the rear). The insert holds the mounting bolt and is protruding and not leaving enough clearance for the bush, has anyone had to remove this item? It’s not for shifting so have had to re-assemble as this could turn into a shit or bust job and I need the bike for transport.

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Can't understand what you mean - have you removed the lower mounting bolt?

Yes, the insert hold's the bolt and is located in the left hand side of the para lever lower shock mounting point, looks like the head of the bolt has pushed it through when it has been tightened. Hope that makes sense.

Hi Guys,
I know what Beermonster means! - it's a "sliding" insert in the swing arm on the same side as the bottom shock absorber mounting bolt goes in from?.
I've had the same problem before, the idea is this insert can slide up against the bottom sh/abs. mounting bush as the cap head screw is tightened - the problem is that it then corrodes in this position and is hard to move.
When fitting an Ohlins there is usually a problem because the Ohlin bottom mounting bush seems to be very slightly longer than the standard Showa unit?
I managed to move mine by making up a jacking stud with a nut on both ends put through a plate on the outside then a nut on the inside and used this to pull the bush out slightly - well sprayed with WD40 as well of course. This worked Ok for me - I did intend to pull it right out and clean it up and lube it, but gave up on that and made-do with enough clearance to get the Ohlin in!!

Thanks for that, at least I am not imagining things. Will try your suggestion as there is not much room to drift the bugger out without taking off the collector box and it has been in there for years so is probably welded in there.
