I know there are some closet RT riders on here so I wonder if you could help.

I've 1150 RT tyre advice please got an R1150RT which will need replacement tyres soon.
It has BT020's fitted and these were on it when I bought it a few months back.

My tyre dealer says that if I have BT020 tyres fitted again I should have BT020E's as these are specified by BMW. The pair come in at £220 fitted.

Anyway, my question is are there other tyres out there that I should consider?

I travel about 450 miles per week, one up, all year round, mainly on motorways.

I use my GS too :D

Any advice greatly received.

Really?

OK, take the wheels off the RT and throw the rest of the bike away. Fit the RT wheels to your GS. Sorted. :D

£220 sounds like a lot - I just paid £190 fitted and balanced (to loose wheels) for 020's in RT sizes. Wasn't the 'E' spec, though.....

IMO you'd be hard pushed to beat 020's, particularly in the wet, but with that weekly mileage you might want something a bit harder-wearing depending on how you ride.

Metz Z4's (there is a specific tyre for the front I think) or the newer Z6's (no specific front AFAIK).

I followed my mate on his RT and he touched the pegs down in the wet  using Z4's so there is no issue on grip, still I was pushing him so can vouch for 010's as well :D

His Z4's have lasted 6k or more I believe. I'm now on Z6's and they are showing little sign of wear after 3.3k and still steer nicely compared to Bridgestones after the same mileage.

I had BT020 on my RT when I bought it and didn't like them. Especially the rear, in the wet, was less than reliable (especially downshifting). The front, however, was very good.
I replaced them with Mez4 (always had Mez4 on my R1100R) and loved them, again especially in the wet.

I've not tried the new Mez6, but they look just as good if not better.

Anyone with an 1150 or 1200 RT needs to check that the right tyres are fitted the 1150 has 020 E's the 1200 has a CC on the front and AA on the rear ... for a damned good reason... a lot of tyre places will just look at the size chart and fit the ones that are the same size ... the tyres look identical but have a different carcass...
