[SIZE="3"]Hi all, I'm looking at a 1150 but need to know how i recognise a foreign import?
I have seen a very nice blue and white one but dont know how to tell, the owner says he doesnt know either[/SIZ:typeE]

The speedo will be kph only, unless it's been changed.
It doesn't really matter if it was destined for another market.

My first GS1150 came from the German market and that was new when they were difficult to get hold of, the headlamp was also adjusted to dip the other way.

they all have German air in the tyres as well:confused:

The only reason I can think of for not wanting to buy a BM that has been imported from Germany ( as opposed to having been imported from Germany by BMW UK :eek ) is that it gives insurance co's the opportunity to shaft you even more than usual on your premium. For some unfathomable reason, you cannot get a quote online from BMW Motorrad insurance if your bike is an 'import'.... :nenau

Give your local dealer a call and ask them to check the registation number.

I brought my one in from Germany. Changed the dip lamp (could have just twisted it) and the speedo. Everything else is exactly the same except I cant understand the owners manual:blast

Had no problems with the insurance either (not tried BMW online)
The question is usualy similar to "is the bike model not normally imported into this country" as it is it's OK

PM me the chassis number - last 7 digits i.e. AB12345 (located on headstock).

Also look at the front page of the V5, if it's a UK bike, it should say "Declared New At First Registration" (bottom left, under Special Notes), anything else & it may be an import.

thanks guys, it was for the increased premiums I been told to expect that I asked the question.

Mine came from Germany (the previous owner is in the British Armed Forces).

The speedo and headlamp have been changed to UK spec - but the little label on the instrument panel that says "check your oil regularly" is in German.

This might apply to other imported bikes as well.

The handbooks are in English (but the diagrams show right-hand dip headlights).
