1150GS & 1150GSA fuel tank removal !

Anybody come across this problem before !

Myself and a mate both removed our fuel tanks to spray a protective coating under the fuel tank's. On re-fitting the tank's both bikes will only run on one cylinder (left one). Eventually we got the 1150GS running properly but the 1150GSA is still running on the left cylinder only.

Anybody got any suggestions ?

A bit worrying that a simple thing such as removing a fuel tank can lead to such bother especially if one got, say, contaminated fuel and just needed to empty the tank or repair a split fuel line etc.

Check that the throttle cable on the RHS is fully seated in the wee adjuster. It's a common mistake to make. If yours looks like the pic below that's your problem. Simply seat the cable in the adjuster and all will be well again.

The throttle cables can get mis-routed in the splitter box when you remove the tank and pull them a little.

Have a search for a long thread by MikeP about it......same symptoms, loooooong search to find problem and a PITA to fix 'cos it's fiddly.

If I manually work the left side with my finger it revs but nothing happens when I try the same on the right side. Cable routing has been checked.

Start with the basics.....swap the coil packs around.....does the problem move side? Swap spark plugs, same question......

Coil packs break down often...they have now changed the design and you'll know if you have a new improved one by the grey band on the end.

I'm on my 5th in 5 years (but my bike has spent rather a long time underwater)

thats because the L/H throttle controls the fuel through the TPS. So by just opening the R/H throttle the engine doesn't get any more fuel, just air in the R/H cylinder.

As most have already said it's almost 99% certain that you've dislodged a throttle cable from it's seat. If not at the throttle body, then at the splitter box. It's one of the disadvantages of being heavy handed when removing/replacing fuel tanks.

that happened to me yesterday
after fitting garmin mains lead FFS
had to wait for somebody to help me take tank back off only to find same thing on start up.then notice cable as per your picture.

OK guys thanks, got the problem sorted. Looked up the thread that Fanum suggested and found the problem. It was the throttle cable going in under the battery tray.

My mate who owns the GSA asked me to thank you all for your speedy help
