We're in the process of buying a new house (move in on the 4th) and this one has a garage so only one thing for it. A bike!

I'm looking at 1150 GS Adventures and have around £5,000 (or possibly more for the right one) to spend. Ideally silver or white with full aluminium luggage.

I'd be really grateful of any advice, tips, etc. of things to look out for when inspecting.

Fingers crossed I'll be back on the road soon.

Thanks in advanced.

Obvious , but, service history , well looked after with plenty of oil changes. As best check all the wiring loom particularly around the headstock as they can be caught and break. There are plenty out there so do take your time. Luggage shouldn't be a deal breaker there is plenty of options after to sort luggage OE or otherwise , EBay , German EBay and forums. Corrosion is a massive consideration, engine fins and any around the block are a royal pain to sort. Some corrosion on front engine plate and fork brace would be easier to deal with. After market or serviceable suspension is always a bonus.. other than that just paint and general condition and of course documentation.

Did I mention the white Iones are the ones to have

I assume you have read the section on buying advice on this forum. If you use the search function you'll see this question has been asked many many times.

FWIW i think your wasting your money going for an SE (white) if your going to ride it. If you have 5k plus to spend I'd be looking at a 1200 hex head GSA or early twin cam GS. Both better bikes than the oilhead imho.
Thats the logical thing to do but bike buying is of course more emotive than that. Good luck in your search. I see you have subscribed too so you can see the for sale section. Don't be put off by high mileage bikes of the condition is good. The oilheads do 100,000 easily, spend 3-4k and the rest on fuel and upgrades

The 1200's are no good if you want to ride a 1150 GSA

Monty has covered it

Examine the seller as much as the bike with a private sale - go for one that someone has owned for a number of years and not 5 mins

Great bikes and I wouldn't swap mine for any 1200

Watch out for brake servo problems. Very expensive to replace.

Lots of really nice 1150 and some mint condition and I agree with JBlook at the seller tells you everything
I've had a 1200 gs went back to my 1150 I think the best BMW ever made
Good luck
Just been out on mine couldn't stop smiling

Thanks all, much appreciated. I had a look at the German bikes, though the Euro exchange rate at the moment kills that option. I think add to the wanted section and just sit back and see what comes up.

Still are great bikes if that's your thing as are Airheads

You like 1200's

I like 1150's

We're different and have different opinions, that's all

1150's….and so it seems, does the op.
If I wanted a fucking 12 then I'd ask for advice on a 12 not a bloody 1150.
12's can fcuk off:D

I like 1150s as well hence why I used one for the outfit it works well I like the character...but 1200s perform better imho.

This is mine, also not for sale :D
