Hello.

Can you please help? I have just changed the belt on the alternator of my 1150 GS, using the Haynes manual a guidance. I used the torque wrench to tighten the belt with precisely no effect at all. I seems like the 8Nm of torque specified is not enough to lift the alternator when applied to the back of the adjuster! Could you please advise me what I may be doing wrong or if more than 8Nm is required. (the tank is off for a fuel filter change) I am a pretty competent home mechanic (just rebuilt my supermoto engine) but this one got me stumped!

Thanks guys.

Yes, I read that thread which shows where to adjust the tension. The problem is that 8Nm of torque applied to that adjuster does not move the alternator even 1mm!

Thanks folks. Great board this! I did the 90 degree twist method because the adjuster did nothing! Glad that you get 24k out of it.

Your using the torque wrench in the wrong direction.
You need to turn it Anticlockwise.

8nm works fine.

This assumes you have a torque wrench that can be used in the anticlockwise direction! I use a Norbar that has the push through square bolt, this can simply be turned around and used the other way.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :blast Dribblersdad! I'll give that a go! I've got such a torque wrench. Anticlockwise to tighten, what will the squareheads think of next, square pistons?

Thankyou
