Still in the process of replacing the gearbox on 1150GS, the gearbox is on and everything reassembled.

But when running the bike on the centre stand, there is a rattle from (seems like) inside the swingarm, but only in the higher gears or at higher engine speeds.

We have had the rear drive off again and checked the driveshaft rotates properly etc, there is some slight play backwards and forwards in the drive shaft, but I expect this is normal.

Any clues???? :nenau

it is more than likely the drive shaft have you phased the uj's and do not forget that the drive shaft is running at a steep angle as the suspension is not loaded take it for a ride and see if the noise is there at road speed

hope this helps

Yeah, dont do it

the way you are running it ie not loaded on the stand , the driveshaft is at excessive angle, also you have all the free play in the gearbox layshaft, and final drive all clattering about.

Take it for a ride and try it

Thanks for the advice, we were already thinking about the steep angle, ie rather than the drive shaft wanting to rotate, its more like wanting to flail about from the UJ at the gearbox end. :thumb

However I could do with some advice about phasing the UJ's, its not something we considered.... How best do you go about it??? :bow

Did a bit of searching and had my eureaka moment about phasing UJ's.

MANY THANKS!!!! :thumb :beerjug:
