Hi all,

Just a quick question. I have a 2001 R1150GS in the alpine blue and white colour scheme with a remus can and about 69,000 miles on the clock. Full service history, but the bike is *ahem* a little rough. There is corrosion on the engine as you would expect and this is relatively entrenched. There is also some bubbling on the shaft drive cover and some relatively extensive bubbling a little further up on the gearbox. Spoked wheels have some pitting but nothing major. Never bothered me - she's a work-horse!

Just had the full shebang service 3,000 miles ago and everything is up together. She rides beautifully and cleans up ok as well.

She has never let me down in all the time I've owned her, has a full remus system and bags of Touratech extras (guards, screen, camel toe thing, sump bash plate, full crash bars, beak extender, pyramid hugger and a few more).

I'm thinking of trading her in for a new(er) BMW and have a few grand on top.

What should I expect as a trde in price?

I'm just looking for a general idea from someone who potentially works in a garage, so any help (but not silly comments) preferred.

I assume for a private sale that a bike, in this 'average' condition would be £2500 - £2,800 without some of the Touratech bits.

Cheers :-)

From what I'm feeling perhaps I should just run her into the ground and keep the extra cash for the Daytona 675 instead.

I guess 20 thousand odd trouble free miles has to be worth something from the old girl...

Just keep it you'll get double that milage out of it yet and dealers won't give you a lot
so hang on to it the small amount you'll get from a dealer won't go far towards a newish bike so HANG ON TO IT AND RIDE IT!!!.

I was offered £3500 for a 52 plate GSA fully loaded with 40k miles. A mate showed me the book price for trade in which was Between £3400 - £3600 however the retail was in excess of £5200.

I was in a kawasaki dealership today and they have a similar bike to your with 52k on the clock selling for £4400.

I'm keeping mine and what I have saved will go on a wee sports bike for something different.

From my dealer experience there was usually about £1250-£1500 difference between in and out price:eek:

Covers all the stolen coffee spoons:D

Also my experience is if your bike is a little cosmetically challenged and has mileage comensurate with being a biker rather than a showroom jockey then you sell it privaely or keep it!

I used to find it hilarious that the book mileage for a cruiser was about 1500 per year. Mind, having ridden one I can see it makes a sort of anti-masochism sense:D

RT's and GS used to have the most generous "book" mileage of about 8k....

I was thinking of getting rid of my 03 1150GSA (Black/Yellow) with 85,000kms on it but as others mention, you don't get the value in £££ on selling it as you would in keeping it going and enjoing the bike for what it is.

Decided to ride it back one day from Saudi and buy an Electra Glide here for the end-of-life experience as a one-day-soon retiree. Can't really go fast anywhere anymore so might as well travel in comfort.
