1150GSA Clutch Replacement

Searched the threads but no conclusive answer so advice please. Clymer manual says white marks on housing cover and pressure plate must be 180° apart.

Tsiklonaut mentions 120° apart on his post (http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153714&page=1) between two parts above and white mark on face of flywheel, Clymer makes no mention of mark on face of flywheel.

So the question is;
Is it 180°
or
120°

120 + 120 + 120 = 360! In practice though if they are a bit off it doesn't really matter. Just use new bolts... probably more important than spacing on clutch plates.

Got new bolts, along with new everything else, don't want to do this again in a hurry.
For anyone interested, braided clutch hose from Sherlocks is about half price of Motorworks item.
Clutch plate was almost down to rivets so new kit going on.

How many miles on the bike ? Is it the bikes first new clutch ?

Just curious how long they last ish

Bikes done 60k guess its the first clutch but only had it for 3k miles.
It's getting changed while gearbox is being rebuilt
When its back together everything engine backwards will be as new.

At risk of sounding like 'mines bigger than yours' syndrome here, and starting a 5 page fukkin dick comparison, my 1150 is starting to slip under hard acceleration (4k rpm upwards) in 4th gear through to top and she's on 85K miles - uses no oil between services either.


Winter project me thinks.

Eh not a bad return that is it.

Don't know why but I had about 50k miles in my head for a new clutch

Suppose riding style is a big factor. I don't have any so it will probably be 30k miles for me.

Yes it wasn't slipping but it's daft not to change it while box is out.
Glad I did, looks like there is only 1 mm left before rivets are touching.
I guess previous owners either did drag racing or loads of slow speed CBT stuff

....and you'd be right, going that far in and you'd be an utter plonker and a silly fucker not to change the clutch.



Unlike me when I had me gearbox overhauled by Steve in Sleaford last winter, as I was skint, I didn't do it

It only lasted 32k...

Yes - it was a big metal case full of cogs, but that's not important right now...

It's a clutch. Wear rate all depends on the rider and where it's ridden.

Used in london don't be surprised to get about 20K miles, even less. My loan bike needed one at 18K miles.

Wow when the dry clutch on the 1150 burns out it really burn's out does'nt it!

It really doesn't matter.
I've noticed when replacing customers clutches that the ones fitted when assembled at the factory are usually never at 120 degrees. They are all over the place.
