1150gsa downshift advice

I've been riding my 02 gsa for two days and occasionally when I go to downshift there is no resistance on the lever and it doesn't change gear. I then knock it up one gear, and it will downshift normally from there.
Any ideas?

Dirty linkage. Common problem.
Strip it down, thoroughly clean and re-grease the ball joints. Jobs a good un.

Just off the top of mi head loik......Check thet the gear lever is fastened correctly and not loose behind the starter cover. better still, whip it off, clean & lube, then stick it back on and tighten so your sure it has proper purchase where it boldt onbenind the starter.

If it's loose, it may not help locate the gears properly.

Could be wrong, but it's always best to start with the cheap and easy solutions before starting to worry about serious and costly problems.
