i have the preload on the back on minimum, and the damping half a turn harder than stock but it needs a tad more. front is on min preload too. works ok 1 up.

not done much 2 up yet but feel the rear shock will be totally out of it's depth then. hope i'm wrong, wilbers are not cheap :(
Why have the rear set so low? it drags its arse like a dog with worms on the lowest settings, but perhaps your one of those slim underdeveloped types that could do with a good meal in them:nenau :D

Fronts OK on minimum, but you can check that with a cable tie lightly fixed around one fork leg, if the tie(after good ride about is right at the top of the forks stroke, add a bit more preload until it feels right, generally a waste of time though as the minimum setting is usually best at the front:thumb

Hi Euroenduro
I have owned 1150 GSA for the past 4 years (almost) 51,000 km on it bought it in Germany second-hand 10 months old. I have just ordered a 1200 GSA from Kearys in Cork. My first ‘new’ road bike in 24 years (the last was an HONDA 125xl same style mind you). I realy liked the 1150, I use it every day to commute 30 miles which includes Cork City. I find it a very good bike in traffic (why I say this is because most commentary re GSA is that you can’t get them through traffic jams) I have only a 32 ins leg so I am no King Kong.

Off road on a GSA is really a no no. If you want to do it get a dirt bike, much better fun and costs a lot less.
The reason I am changing is basically to upgrade. I got a good trade in price and from now on the 1150 GSA will start to age. However that is not to say that a new 1200 is good value its not, once you put all the ‘standard’ extras on it.
Reservations regarding the 12000 are as follows, no enduro gear box (low first gear as in the 1150), the engine is less protected due to the fact that the engine bars do not extent to the back of the cylinders. Its just a beefed-up version of the standard 1200. But it is the natural progression and still has great road presence.
So I suppose you cant go wrong with either bike really, mind I cant speak for UK but to get a 1200 GSA here (IRL) I must wait until the end of March !!!!!

REGARDS
Mike

PS Greetings MICKY from CORK

Well done indeed that man! Either way you were going to enjoy the bike :)

Not sure about the couple of grand bit tho LOL - I hope your wife is every bit as understanding and encouraging as mine :thumb

Don't worry, it's a well known fact that silver ones are faster :augie

Congratulations Euroenduro
Did you include Traction control ?
By the way I had mine ordered when I realized the ‘top power socket’ is now an extra also. As I had just ordered a GPS (zumo) so this could have been a P in the A…. , however I am reliable told that a socket exists at the left side of the head stock for this purpose ??!!!! I would like to get more info on it though.

Mike

PS Mine is the one with the red bits (slow model). I wonder which one will arrive first ??

top man. ignore the majority herd and just buy the best bike :thumb

and you can always repaint it

Piggers:thumb , so relating this to my first post, when I asked:

Reliability (appreciate the 1200 is pretty new but...)?
Build quality/robustness?

Are you saying that the quality (whatever that means? components? finish?) of the 1150 is better than the 1200...is that what other dual owners feel...cos that would be a worry for me and others who are considering migrating the 1200 route.:nenau

Cheers

Euroenduro,

By the look of your latest post it is to late as you have already done the dead.
I have just changed from a 2005 GS1200 to a 2005 GSA1150.
The gearbox is smoother, then engine is quieter, the transmission has less backlass (Clunk on shutoff). The rear mudguard area is far better finished off.
The Cockpit is better looking. Less plasticy (is there such a word ?)and rattley overall.

But that is not to say that the GS1200 wasn't a fantastic bike (I never had any problems with mine), just that I prefer the GSA1150.

Hope you enjoy the GSA1200.

Cheers, Piggers

Trippy,
I can't believe it. That's twice I have seen your bike on posts and I have been amazed that they weren't followed by a barrage of comments about those odd stickers on your beak...:D :thumb

No need for any comments.
Just another part of the GS family.
ukGSer stickers are on the tank :thumb

nah, nah, nah, nah..i'm not listening:headphone .....:thumb

bmwbikeruk:thumb , am planning to share the love of touring with my beloved partner but I don't need a pillion to do that, her name starts with 'GS' and ends with '0', :D however I have two fine fillies :rose on the go at the moment but need to choose one over the other, so is it 'dependable but dumpy' Miss 1150 or 'unpredictable but slim' Miss 1200.....somethings gotta give:mcgun

Ha ha ha...allright....well, if you want to be selfish, then either R1150GSA or R1200GSA will do fine for solo riding! If you like electronic gadgets, then it is R1200GSA for you with its on board computer that keeps you fully informed of the bike's health! Now the decision is yours! :blast

I like biking, wifey doesn't :nenau its the one thing we agree to agree on!

I had a long hard think whether to include the computer in the order but decided not to, can't remember who posted the comment but, when discussing traction control on another thread, they said something like '..be having stabilisers next'....and have to agree with that comment that translates to me as; too many aids (albeit I have gone for ABS - only required as a bison/child/car door steps out in front of me:tears , aka possible life saver) may go against the reason as to why I (I, I may add) enjoy biking.
