I have a friend with a 2003 1150R and he is complaining of problems changing gear when the bike is hot.

I have done a bit of a search and found that dirty oil and also external gearshift bushes can cause this problem. I will invesatigate these points and see if they are the problem.

I have heard a story that these gearboxes can have problems that require a full transmission change. Anyone know if there is any truth here?

Cheers for any info.

Dirty oil???

Never hear this before, just strip and grease the linkages, remember the bolt holding the pedel pivot onto the footrest hanger is put on with lock tite and requires heating prior to removal.

+1 on the dirty linkages.

Make sure you remove and clean the actual bush that the gear lever pivots on - not just the bolt.
