What sort of tyre life do you guys get from your 1190R? My bike has just clocked up 4,500 miles on it's original Conti Trail Attacks and it is completely shot.

Has anyone tried any other tyres?

Well i don't hang around on mine ride it as fast as my gs got 8500 out of the set (gs only 5000) ,i put conti back i love em.

I quite like the Conti's on my 1190A, probably get somewhere between 5k and 6k out of a rear depending on how ridden/how unlucky I am with punctures. That said, I find their performance can drop off a cliff before they reach illegal tread depth (especially the front).

Currently on 3,000 miles on mine and TBH they hardly look worn and not squaring off at all at the moment. I'm pleasantly surprised as I used to get around 4-4,500 miles out of a rear on my 1200GS.

I've been very impressed with the Conti's, especially given how skinny the front is on the 21". They are very predictable, stable and have more grip than I'm able to exploit. They seem especially good in the wet, especialy given the power the bike's trying to lay down - or maybe the TC is doing it's job very well?

Columbo-john, AFAIK there aren't any other road based tyres made in the R wheel sizes (with the relevant speed rating) unless peeps know different? TKC70's are coming out soon in a 21" front but as good a tyre as they seem to be they are never gonna come close to the OEM fitment as a pure road tyre.

I bought the bike 2nd hand with 2,200 miles on the clock so have no way of knowing how the bike was ridden for these miles or how carefully the previous owner checked the tyre pressures. It will be interesting to see how long the new one lasts.

I am going for another Conti Trail Attack as a) I am dead impressed with them in terms of wet and dry grip and feel and b) I can't find any other road biased tyres as Outtomunch has said above.

I tried five or six different tyre brands on my GS, and the only pair I bought twice were the Dunlop TR91's 'cos I was so impressed with them. (Also absolutely superb in the wet :thumb2).

These have very recently been updated to the 'Trailsmart' and come with a 21 90 90. I'll be getting these when the Conti's are shot. (currently on 2k and i can just feel the rear ever so slightly beginning to loose its profile ... )

My bike is currently at 5500 miles. The front tyre is wearing pretty evenly, and probably has 40% of its tread depth left. The rear is slightly more worn (and slightly squared - but only a little). That's not bad, especially as I abused the tyres last summer on a very hot trackway at Oulton Park. At first I was worried how the skinny front tyre would cope with hard braking and cornering on a trackway, but it performed brilliantly. It's a long way down from that high perch to get a knee to scrape the deck though!

Yes - I'm conscious of the 90 90 and don't push the front on corner entry as much I do on a sports bike. I've probably got nothing to worry about, but it's always in the back of my mind .....

John as you know ive got TKC80s on mine that have now done 800 miles and the rear is looking like its worn down already, I have looked at all other tyres and am going to put the Attack 2s back on I was told by Lee at Round and Black that they were tweeked by conti for the bike as to make them Grip a bit better and Last a bit Longer, He says that they have had a load of customers going back to them over any other brand,
The TKC80s are surprisingly good on the bike but Ive got a 1500 mile trip booked for next month and don't think the rear will do another 1500 miles !!

As Andres also quite rightly points out there arnt many tyres that have the same speed rating in the sizes needed Ive looked at TKC70s, Distanzias, and a fair few more all are roughly 112 MPH Rated, I know that's at max load etc but Id rather air on the side of caution with a bike with this power and speed

...and trail attacks are bloody good tyres. way better on the road than TKC80s, which though remarkably good for a knobbly, are not in the same league on the road.

Had Conti Trail Attacks on my 990 both the original and the second generation, second generation have the same level of grip but lasted longer :thumb On the 1190 I'm getting 5,500 from a rear (just over 1mm left) and 10,000 from a front but I should have changed the front at 9,000, there was tread left but the handling deteriorated drastically in the last 1,000 miles.

Dave

Fitted the attack 2s back on last night and used the bike for work this morning they do feel better than the TKC80s and for the trip they will be better but the TKCs look so much better !!
