12,000 miles of happyness on a 07 12GSA

48,972 from new in Sept 2004.

Although I've had the usual problems: Servo pump at very early miles, FPC recently and corossion on the timing cover, it's almost 5 years we've been together now, which is unheard of for me.... and all I want next is new shocks and a louder trumpet.

Timely revival

Just picked up on this revived thread. I replied earlier in the thread when I had just bought my 1200GS and loved it from the off. Just returned from a trip to west Wales over the b.h. week end and it only gets better. The ride along the A40 in the Brecons national park was a blast (even with full lugggage and wife) and the bit of A4 from Marlborough to Newbury just made it sing! Still love it and it gets better all the time. Done nearly 5k since January, which is a lot for me (did 2k all last year) and no faults as yet.

My 1150GS has now been in my ownership 3 years. Have done lots of miles in that time and it just does the business - and keeps up with the 1200 hundreds I often ride with.
As a treat for my old age, nearly 60, have just bought an Aprilia RSV1000R. And the adrenaline rush you get from it is awesome.
However, when I just want a to use a bike to get from a to b with the least effort and the most comfort - and luggage: I go straight to the BM.
Horses for courses I guess!
PS The BM also gets close to sticking with the Aprilia round corners - but let's not get too carried away.

I make my plans for the future, that being that i will keep my 1150gsa se,take it off the road in the winter of 2010, give it a complete overhaul and return the bike to as near new condition as possible.
I will satisfy my occasional need for change by swapping a smaller and less expensive bike each year, that bike currently being a 94 f650 funduro which i planned to swap next year for a 650 dakar. All is well in the world:augie
Then i stumble upon this resurrected thread and remember that in my heart of hearts i know the 1200gsa is a much better ride than the 1150gsa.
When i bought my 1150, it was after spending many hours testing the 1200 and coming to the conclusion that i could not warrent spending almost twice as much money on the 1200.
I still think the 11gsa is a much nicer looking bike, but do i want to ride it or look at it.
My world is in turmoil again :nenau

Maybe when i retire next year i should just buy a 1200gsa an keep my 1150:thumb

Well that's that plan out of the window then.
Called in at Rainbow Rotherham to get them to stamp the service book for a service 2yrs ago that was done by them on my 1150, but the book was not stamped.
Had a look around the showroom, then got talking to Shaun.
I was aware that the current model was being phased out,but was surprised to hear just how few 1200gs's were left for sale.
They offered me a great deal on accessories, not just the free panniers ,and a very good P/EX value on my 1150.
Shuan was not at all pushy and printed out the deal we had discussed.
Joanne and i discussed it and decided to go ahead.
I put the 1150 up for sale on here just in case someone was looking for an SE,i would rather the bike go complete to a decerning Tosser than be stripped of all it's extra's and sold on through the dealer network.
Two days later my bottle twitched and i removed my 1150 from the for sale section,we had not ordered a 1200 at this time.
After much soul searching and deliberation,we ordered the 1200 and put the 1150 back up for sale (lots of interest, but no actual cash changing hands so it look's like it will go in P/ex)
Well the bike is due for delivery on 17th October, which is a bit frustrating because, although i am recovering well from my coronary bypass surgery, which i had on the 9th of September,i have been told "no motorcycle riding until the very earliest mid November"we'll see.
Have i made the right decision? only time will tell.Though i do intend to start a thread that will give my own objective opinion, over the coming month's,
on the pro's and con's of both models.
I would have liked the SE version of the 1200,but i am informed the are all sold.
Will let you know my thoughts and how i get on with the new bike .

GSA Love

I bought a new 1200GSA back in May and having now done almost 9k miles on her, I had some Karoo’s fitted and did a 4hour off road ride around the Cotswolds last Saturday.

Now, although the GSA is a big old girl, its was surprisingly good off road (mud, ruts, rocks, grass etc..) and I didn’t fall of,,,..which was nice.

Also, I must say I’m really quite impressed with the new Karoo’s. They are brill off road and surprisingly capable on tarmac to (even in the wet). In fact I’d say they have better road manners than the TKC’s I had on my old GS. :thumb

Got my 2008 GSA New in July 2008. Now done 23000 miles and I am getting a little fed up with the "silly" problems - taken care of under warranty but in my view should not happen. i.e 2 x centre stands, headlamp, heated hot grip, auxillary light switch, stickers peeling, top box working loose, melting instrument console, cracked left winglet etc.

It is a good workhorse and that is why I bought it but then so was my Blackbird and my VFR800VTEC and I never experienced any issues like the beemer and I did the same mileages.

Bit dissapointed really

5,300 miles, 4 months old today, 1200gs, great bit of kit.:bounce1:bounce1

The title of this thread reminded me of the old Peter Seller's gag (no pun intended).

"12,000 miles of a penis on a 07 12GSA"

Just read your post, new to the forum today and am looking to get my first GSA, and it has pretty much convinced me! Sounds ideal and the reliability sounds top notch and the bike sounds amazing. Right up my street! Cheers

Yeah, pretty reliable these shonky old 1200 GS things... 37K on a very late 2008 model.

(famous last words, my FPC will give itself up now).
