My GS has a 12,000 service needed mid-May before a 6 day trip abroad. How much is that likely to hurt my wallet?

Not the OPs question but on a general 'cost of services' theme, I'm paying £185 for a 6000 mile service today which includes brake fluid change - perhaps (and hopefully) the 12000 may be less expensive or does it need brake fluid also?

Mine was £261.42 at Allan Jefferies a couple of weeks ago (no brake pads or other parts required) :thumby:

The brake fluid is being changed before the 12K service as it's needed at 12 months regardless of mileage the first time. I was quoted £185 for the 6K service by Cooper last year, but they they had a 6 week booking lead time! Bahnstormer did it quicker and for less. 12k service looks like plugs, air filter and valve clearances as well as the oik and filter, which is all the 6K service does (besides checking the kickstart folds properly ;-)).

Going to need a 12k service this month. Brake fluids weirdly done at 6k, just waiting for a quote from Vines. So is the ballpark £260 ish

My 12000 service (16 months from new) from Coopers Tunbridge Wells earlier this month was.......£382.58. Only service items done, including rear bevel oil and changing brake fluid.

Pretty sure mine was a little over £200 from Bahnstormer in Alton

Had my 12k done at vine's a month or 2 ago.

They quoted 500ish, but once the service was done and it came time to pay the service was high 300's.

I asked why there was a diff in the price and was told. 500 is the cost "if" the values need to be corrected. Mine did not. Hence the lower cost.

On a side note, a LC that is serviced by Vine's did a 30 000 services and the values were still perfect.

i understand there are differences in each bike, for instance mine is under a year old and had the brake fluids done at 6k. That aside Barnstormer Alton quoted £290 for the same service Vines quoted £455. It doesn't make sense.

Think my 12K cost about that in May, also at Coopers TW. Except they managed to deselect changing the bevel box oil, so it wasn't done. I did it myself. It was black and smelly, with nice metallic mud on the magnetic drain screw.

Couldnt get a breakdown or response about why the service is £455 at Vines, so i've booked in with Bahnstormer for £317, which now includes an oil change in the final drive as well.

The only variables between dealers should be the hourly labour rate, costs of fluids and consumables

Of course if they run and hide every time you walk through the door this too is a reasonable indication of just how much they dislike you :D

haha! its probably because i went and bought the Scrambler instead of the second hand S1000R i was very keen on.

Mine was £340 at Harry Fairbairns, was quite a big one (relatively speaking). They also told me that there wasn't much life left on the disks and of course they're not covered by warranty, bike has 16000 miles and is 15 months old.
