I considering trading in my 1150GS for a nice new 1200GS. I'll be after a yellow and grey on with a black seat, heated grips and topbox.

Anyone know what the waiting time is from a main dealer?

Whats the general consensus on the must have options?

Heated Grips - Surely a must!
Engine Bars (BMW or other)? - Leaning towards tidy looking BMW ones
Cylinder guards? Not as well as bars surely?
Wire wheels or standard? Standard cheaper and lighter.
Remus can and K&N filter? Sound and performance improvement?
Topbox/panniers? - Topbox seems very versatile for day to day usefulness - panniers side opening - i would probably go for Zega if I was to go touring.
Tankbag? I use the one on my 1150 all the time - mega useful
Spotlights? Aren't the lights meant to be better on the 12? I haven't ridden one at night to check.

Any feedback will help me decide. Cheers!

Heated Grips - YES
Engine Bars - Hepco & Becker, BMW no good.
Cylinder guards - Got them as well as the bars, but maybe no needed, not an option with BMW bars.
Wheels: Alloy easier to clean, look better (IMHO), no good for *serious* offroad?
Can: Remus seems to be the default can - just bought one myself
Topbox: I've got BMW topbox - again good piece of kit (IMHO). Going for the BMW panniers as well, didn't like the look of the permanent frames of zega and don't intend doing off road with panniers. Going to use bags to aid loading / unloading.
Tankbag: didn't like the BMW one. Mine actually came with one and I had it removed. Will fit baglux system eventually.
Lights: Dipped beam looks ok, but haven't had extensive use of main beam so cannot comment.

Alarm: Don't bother with BMW, go with aftermarket like Datatool or the like.

What's wrong with the BMW one?

Hi Stoney,

trust me the headlights are shite, whether or not on main beam!

I could give the bike a good kick and it wouldn't go off. Garage tells me sensitivity not adjustable. Range of blipper is poor. Blipper is not suitable for mounting on keyring e.g. rubberised like datatool. Siren not particularly good.

I've had better aftermarket kit on other bikes that have been more sensitive.

I'm quite confident I could take the rear wheel off without the alarm going off.

Have you added spots then? Any pics?

I've seen the H&Bbars on another thread - they look the biz!

I think some people have fitted, or are fitting the Touratech / Wunderlich foglight kits. As far as I know, these are the only kits available in Europe at the moment.

I'm waiting for a decent light bar to be fabricated (Migsel??) then I'll buy the lights etc. separately and fit. I'm fitting the +50% output bulbs next week to see if they are any better.

All this said, the lights on the 1200GS are equal if not better than those of my old CBR600:rolleyes:

Hugger also a must.

I'm going for the BM alarm as its half the price of the datatool one, plus with the SPC offer: For every £100 spent in the workshop they give a £50 voucher it should cost me less than £100 fitted, (its having a service next week £180+).

Good point, but I'm still waiting for a sub £100 hugger. I think NWS are developing one. [/QUOTE

I quizzed the pyramid people at the NEC in November. They said they have had so many enquiries that they would prolly be doing a hugger in the near future.
I had a pyramid hugger on the blackbird and they're great quality. About £130 for CF, a lot less for placcy.

Heated grips....oh yes....

H & B Bars seem far superior. I would go for a Givi Box as I'm sure the BMW one doesn't hold 2 helmets. I love the BMW tank bag but I know its not to popular with others as its high if you arn't tall.

The best bit about the BMW panniers is when they are not fitted you can't see any awful looking frames.

just my tuppence.

Just picked mine up the other day (30th,) rode it 440 k home. Great bike! BMW panniers, top box and crash bars will be added at first service in a coupla weeks. Comes with heated grips and a hugger?? in Oz. Will report further after extras are added. Only other extra am looking at at the moment is oil cooler guard. Worth the wait , was ordered in July?!! Will do another 100k odd tomorrow on gravel/dirt. Cya, Tim.:P

I believe the alarm detects wheel movement, so you could probably knock the bike over without it going off but you couldn't wheel it away. I guess this is one of the ways they keep it cheap, 118 quid for the BMW alarm and a Datatool 3 is about 300 fitted as I remember.

You're wrong abut the fob I think, I took mine apart and it does have a rubber seal to stop water getting in. I keep mine in my pocket anyway though, I hate having loads of crap hanging off my keyring :D

Dead right about the range of the blipper though! It's very poor!

I'm sure it does have a seal, but on the previous Datatool I had, the whole circuit board was embedded in thick rubber and that attached directly to the key ring. It would then bounce about on the key ring whilst riding not causing any damage to it or the bike. Clever design.

I opted for heated grips, BM panniers and liners to ease loading/unloading. I found the tank bag too tall for me. I ordered cylinder protection too but will amend that on Tuesday as I have some H&B bars coming now.

I ordered 3 weeks ago and delivery is due mid-Feb.
Only stock available, that I could locate had spoked wheels and/or colour combinations that I wasn't keen on.

After a Honda Pan I think I'll miss the cubby hole options for Autocom and accompanying trickery, but I plan to put it all in a TT bar bag with only the power cable hard wired to the bike.

I hope Pyramid or someone else picks up on the obvious demand for a reasonably priced hugger soon.

I ordered it today!!!

I could have had it in a couple of weeks but decided to wait for the new registration on March 1st!

Final order:
Yellow/Grey/Black
ABS
Heated grips/handguards
Alloy wheels
BMW Alarm
White indicator lenses

I dare say there will be a few items from Ttech and H&B before too long. I'm going to wait a bit before I buy the Remus system.

I need to go and have a closer inspection of the topbox and panniers before I make I mind up.

Thanks for all the help and advice
