Hi,
I'm just about to change the fluid in my final drive after its initial 600miles.
It was a replacement new unit with the bottom drain plug.
I'm a little confused as to how much to refill reading this thread.
I was going to measure what drained out of it and put the same amount of new back in.......

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Jim

Don't forget to add the oil SLOWLY ;)

I used a large syringe that holds 50mm that way you canno go wrong nice nozzle to inject slowly, but I always have lots of blue cleanup tissue stuffed between disc & filling hole saves the mess if it glugs out

Got my oil castrol 75/140 online £15 delivered enough to do 5 changes at 180mm,so if miles clock up why not change yearly or two cheaper than a rebuild.

Bit of locktight good enough why buy a new paralink (paranoid :D ) nut ?

If the bolt is only torqued to 43nm it's not stressed beyond its elastic limit so why would it need to be replaced? Is there some sort of deformable surface on the bolt head that acts as a locking device? Curious why BMW would do this when they use Loctite elsewhere- caliper bolts and rear suspension bottom bolt.

My 1100's torque arm bolt did 20 years without being changed (or loctite) I must have been lucky ;)

I wish my dealer took as much care. I've had them change the fd oil twice, and twice they've left oil on the disk. Job for myself next time!

This is the best reason to do your own work! You know you did it right, or screwed it up, on your own!
