so..... i rode into a pothole today (bloody low sun!) and have a small bend on my front rim, cant see any cracking and have no loss of pressure from the tyre, i cant feel any vibration at all at any speed, is this something that i can just tap back into place (its only flared by 1.5-2mm) or is it a pro job? if it is a pro job i am based in sussex so if anyone knows of a local pro i would appreciate the heads up.

cheers
mike

mmmmmm

Mate, I feel for you. I am no expert but only wish to offer ideas in the way in which help and support is always there for other forum members.

Firstly, on the presumption you have alloy wheels I would very strongly recommend that you DO NOT try to sort it out yourself. The alloy does seem ductile but a further uneducated (sorry, that isn`t meant to sound disrespectful) movement may cause complete failure and the part you may be hitting could simply break or snap off!

I have heard that a `pro` who knows what he is doing can effect a good repair - I am not sure how they do it but I believe it involves the application of heat and lots of experience in knocking it back into shape.

perhaps there are some members out there who could educate the pair of us...................................

Hope you get it sorted pal.

There's a place in Middlesbrough that can straighten alloy bike wheels, they advertise in MCN

Hagon did an excellent job repairing a friends K1200S wheel - they didn't even damage the the paintwork :thumb2

Take a photo of the pot hole (assuming its on a public road) and write to the local authority responsible claiming compensation. They have a duty of care to road users!
Mate of mine dropped his Pan on a detour for roadworks. he wrote to the council insisting that the road was not fit for the traffic using it, he got back all his costs including compensation!

update

i took the bike to my local AD as i had to pick up my spare key (£82 ) they kindly looked at the wheel for me and told me it wasnt worth changing as it was only a small ding, getting it straightened was the way to go. i gently tapped it back into shape with a copper headed hammer and then inspected it closely with a jewelers loupe to make sure there was no cracking.
