I have just booked my new bike in for its 600 miles service, "Yes sir, its oil & filter change, hour and half, that will be £188, Should I be shocked, I suppose not, but It did cause me to choke on my cornflakes!!!!

I learnt a long time ago to ask about the price of a running in service before you agree a deal on a new bike which is why mine was free as part of the deal

Shop around, I found differences of £70 between my supplying dealer and others that I could travel to without too much hassle or expense.

Bryn, have you ever bought a set of tyres? You never keep a bike long enough.
Allan Jefferies £100 all in. Alot of money (not compared to £188!) but it's a new £12k bike ffs. I won't skimp on its first 2 years services simply to avoid hassles with the warranty and the good will that 'could' be well worth the little extra I will pay for its next two or three services.

If you keep the Triumph long enough, you'll soon catch up cost wise if you take back to the dealers for a shim check/replacement. This was one of the reasons I sold my Tiger 1050.

You won't compromise the warranty by finding a dealer who will give you a better deal. You can even use a good independant as long as they use BMW parts. There are some brilliant ones about who will do a better job at half the price.
If you use your dealer, always ask when you book the service what they are going to do and the approx cost so you won't be surprised.
