Hi all

I'm just about to renew and I've been looking at the market - I realise that it's different strokes depending on your age, location etc, but any good tips out there?

I'm currently with Bennetts and almost fell over when the renewal price came through at £557!!! :eek

I've got 1 years ncb, almost 40 and you can see where I live - the bike is in a garage and locked up to a rotweiler :augie.

The cheapest/best value so far appears to be AA - at £337. funnily enough, the end insurer is also Highway, which is what Bennetts also quoted.

Thgouhts? Who are you with and why?

Best

BMW Insurance?

Have you tried BMW themselves? I bought my GSA last year new and after 20 plus years of riding and Advanced stuff under the belt most brokers including Carole Nash who I had used for many years were not even quoting due to the bike being over 10k:blast:blast Any way I gave BM a ring and £290 fully comp and get this I have just bought another BM which only puts £10 to the renewal :beerjug::beerjug:

Hi Palerider,

I would go back to BMW insurance mate, that quote seems high?

I'm 47, live in Wilts, 9 yrs NCB, 30k mls a year (social domestic & pleasure, including to and from work), garaged, no alarm, £117 for the K1200 S, (), just about to trade up to NEW GS1200 ADV, & they want another £28, £20 of which is admin fees!

I did have a quote for the K1200 S with no NCB, (I was using it on another policy at the time), that was £167, £175 for the GS ADV. This would suggest someone might have their sums wrong at BMW ins mate!

Worth a phone call i think.

Good luck, Smudger.

I tried BMW ins and they were expensive for me... I then tried Ducati Insurance as I already had a bike with them and they were the cheapest that I found...

Yup, BMW insurance for me, they do try it on, call them back and tell them your best quote and the price will come down.

Got my renewal through a few weeks back....£247 full comp/protected NCD.....1st day of new insurance.....wrote GSA off !! (36yrs lots of NoClaims - 3pnts on licence, parked in drive, no alarm)

However.....its not really BMW - its Devitts....who then used NIG......all in all they were crap at dealing with my claim......until those magic words 'Full liability accepted' came from the other blokes insurance company - then they couldnt do enough - I told them to go away and dealt completely with his insurance company LV - who were fantastic. NIG lawyers were the worst - "Are you sure your back and neck dont hurt" fecking ambulance chasers - really bugs me that its those people who are driving up the costs for everyone. I told them to bugger off and dealt with LV direct - I was only bruised and had fully recovered a week later so thought £250 would be suitable for my trouble - they paid out straight away.

The accident was on the 21st April, received cheques on Friday for bike (better price than would have got selling myself), equipment, travel. They're going to pay the cherished transfer (£80) and hopefully 1/2 day lost earnings.

They also still have the Nissan Pathfinder rental on my drive.....goes back next Friday........I've been down the tip three times already in it :)

Apart from near death experience - couldnt have worked out better for me - Nice new shiny GDA sat on drive now. Did the deal day after accident and picked it up last Saturday - first service on Wednesday.

At the end of the day - insurance companies are a fecking nightmare....whilst BMW were cheap for me - their performance was poor. If it had been fault I'm sure they would have been complete gits about paying out........

Chris.

Moneysupermarket.com price comparison. Mine was £95 fully comp great quote, but stayed with Footman James at £118 fully comp as they included recovery which is nice to have if BMW cant get to you quick enough and with these bikes, you need good back up!

can also try Tesco's insurance comparison site... My Bennetts came in over £500 too, and ended up with Hastings Direct at £390...

Ok...

Ended up with Highway via AA as they covered accessories (panniers and Zumo 550).

£150 excess, £335 premium inc legal assistance. :augie

Oh, and they cover european riding for up to 90 days and for you to ride another bike.

Cheers!

insurance

AA 3 years no claims 1 blameworthy in past 5 years, 40, near to Hull which has one of the worst bike theft figures, garaged £22 down , £9 a month, £150 excess, even better than BMW AND accident loss recovery, try contacting near the end of the month they all have sales figures to hit and play one off against the other ( 90 days euro cover, can take pillions):):)

Been doing some research- £557 to renew with Bennetts inc Legal expenses cover at 29.99, BikeGuard plus for 59.00 (whatever it is), and personal accident cover at 24.99- but BMW have come through with a stonking £202 . I'm 40 with 2 years NCB, live in rural Wales. So BMW for me, I think - unless somebody advises otherwise !

My renewal quote via Bennets for fully comp was £427 with excesses totalling £400 ( I had an accident just under 3 years ago) so have only 3 years NCD..........................I thought this was an awful lot all the same.

Initially I was told this was their best deal but eventually they got it to £350 with same excesses

I applied online through e bike insurance and got it for £227 with only a £175 compulsory excess.

Bennets seem horrendously expensive this year.

Happier than I was :)
