Screen adjustment

Shenzi - I am wondering if you got your screen adjustment sorted out? I am pretty sure that 'they' fitted the two adjusting screws from the standard GS and that somewhere in your area there is a standard GS with longer than normal screws - which won't matter a bit. Let me know if you are coming this way. A bientôt? Brian

Not yet Brian, we have a major kitchen project in progress :spitfire :spitfire
Plus the fact it is raining, I am a wuss and we all know 12GSAs are made of chocolate so I don't get it wet :D :D
Maybe next week! They have my Carte de Grise now so they will change the plates whenever I go. A bit of a pain, the dealer is near Montpellier airport about 45 mins away.
I think you are right about the reason it won't adjust, the bolts aint long enough!

Don't forget that there's a couple of bits on the Adv screen mounts that stop it going beyond the second-last stop.

Keep checking those windscreen adjuster plastic knobs... they work loose no matter how hard you tighten them (hence the chrome dome nuts on the inside... so you don't lose 'em!)

Just sold my 1200 GS-A

14,500 miles in just over four months, absolutely no problems at all :D ... a great 'bike and much better than the 1150... but not as solid or as well made. The 1150GS-A was the real 'Tonka' toy... the 1200 can never be! The 1200 much better to ride though. Quicker, smoother and handles better :D :D :D

Dislikes of the 1200GS-A...

1) Very harsh transmission snatch
2) Very clunky in first or second
3) Overall styling great but very 'bitty' with plastic covers here, plastic covers there... here a bit, there a bit!
4) Windscreen great... on the motorway and fast A roads, but for the very sharp twisties, over brows etc. much distortion looking through the screen, and at 5' 10" I had to
5) Suspension on the fast A roads, on der Nürburgring, great, but on the back roads up to 50mph absolutely bloody awful
6) It's the dirtiest 'bike I have ever ridden
7) Not done owt yet that the 650 wont do... :rob

Sorry for this but what do you mean by "clunky" in first and second? I just ordered my gsa (should be mine around beginning of december)
I find my actual 05' 12gs difficult to handle in city driving because in the above gears I have to work a lot on the clutch :( not to make her cough, but when you get out you just forget them (1&2). You should try driving in Rome's center slaloming between tourists to get back home..... Maybe it is the same feel?
Also my dealer told me that on my byke I will have the new 2007 ABS that should be better than the one I have now...any clue?
Thanks!

Hi - new here first post. I think that the ABS servo has been altered or discarded. I was listening to a conversation when a mate & his wife signed up for the 2007 1200adv today.

servos

Yep, they're gone and much better for it (extensive posts elsewhere on this subject).
On other subjects above - I have battlewings fitted and they feel pretty good, if I'd had the choice I'd have gone for tourances but if these last 8K(like tourances did on my 1150) I'll stick with them.
Gearbox is like silk (compared with 1150) and a couple of weeks ago I rode across the M62 (highest motorway in england dontcha know) and those electronic warning signs were saying 'slow down - high winds' but I didn't listen and at 90 I could certainly feel it, but not in a worrying way, and I suspect its better than the regular 12 thanks to all that weight.
I'm also totally used to that high seat too now - despite my 30" leg I find I can slip over to one side and put my whole foot down. Been thinking about a lower seat to use for that slippery winter confidence (and so I can wear MX boots, a no-no when if it means a can't point a toe), but will probably not get round to it.
All in all - a seriously happy bunny, and it still hasn't used any oil :clap

Hi Coolrider

I didn't do much mileage on a 1200GS, but did 83,000 miles on an 1150GS, then 60,000 on an 1150GS-A... the 1200GS-A was just so clunky in the first couple of gears, simply that. Sometimes the gear change could be silky smooth, other times just noisy and clunky... never a problem with my 1150's. Deliberately harsh throtttle movements in first and second resulted in horrendous noises from the transmission... never there in the 1150's.

I have ridden in Istanbul at rush hour. but as you say, on the open road you can forget first and second.

OK under normal riding, never a problem, but there was certainly more backlash on the 1200's transmission than the 1150's.

Just an observation on my 1200GS-A and maybe not common to others! I did do 14,500 trouble free miles on the 1200GS-A though

Interesting to note your warning signs "slow down - high winds". I didnt know such warnings as these on R1200GSA. Is this to do with ASC?
