My MPG countdown usually begins at around 120miles on a full tank, and usually indicates around 47 miles remaining. Is this the average?

Errr - No. Though I suppose it depends what sort of riding you are doing.

Mine comes on usually at around 190 with about 45-50 miles left (it sometimes flickers on for a while up to 20 miles earlier).

If your guage is right then you are getting around 35mpg which seems very low; most seem to report 45-50+ so I suspect a faulty guage.

Nope, miles

Hoik the rubber thingy out of the filler neck & you`ll fill the tank quicker & get more in or just do the "fuel tank mod" thats mentioned on here.

Blimey Paul - you must be riding around in 6th at 3000rpm all the time ;)

Seriously though, that seems to be at the other extreme. My experiance, and that of others I've spoken to, seems to be 140-150 miles bfore the warning light comes on.

On long steady journeys I've seen 160 and lots of commuting through town 130. I've even had it down to 105 but I won't incriminate myself here by going into details :D :D

Just to affirm what both Big Lee and Mouse have said, it seems to be a tank filling issue here.

I've drilled my filler neck to allow the tank to vent more effectively when filling up and also pulled out the rubber bit at the bottom of the neck.

If I fill up 'properly' I can get 190 to 200 miles before the reserve 'miles to go' comes on.

I wouldn't claim to be a fast rider.

But then again I do overtake a lot more bikes than ever overtake me.

Hi Jai,

well I've just filled mine up again and it takes ages to fill the last bit (as I haven't done the mod).

For your info warning light came on at an indicated 212 miles and gave a countdown of 51 miles. I ran it down to 9 miles remaining, at a covered distance of 247, so it should get to 256 miles!

By the way it took 20.68 litres to brim it!

Well I'm not exactly the quickest but having just gone through a rear in 4.5k I do use the power.

I normally put in about 18-20 litres.

Today the light came on at 198 miles and showed 57 left but then I was pootling aropund in torrential rain and then going gently on a nice new rear tyre.

Paul

Yep same here

If I take my time filling up, the reserve light comes on at approx 190 miles and then shows 50 (ish) miles to go.

Sorry Paul, wasn't having a dig

No problem - never thought you were.

Haven't had the mod - I'm just patient at the pumps! Normal mpg is around 48 for me.

I think I'll try the mod. I allways place the bike on the centre stand, and thought I was squirting as much as I possibly could, I must admit that I have been doing alot of shitty centre riding recently so will do a test tankful this weekend on more appropriate routes to test the bike. Will note how many litres I can get in. Thanks everyone.

My 1200GS is in for some warranty work (engine cover corrosion and a small oil leak), and the dealer (SPC) says there is a recall for some fuel system O rings, plus an updated fuel map. At the moment I get 145 miles roughly before the fuel counter starts warning and gives me 45 miles to go etc. I hope that new fuel map update will improve things.

Hi folks

I tend to ignore the fuel guage nowadays and just fill up at 200mls (17-18 ltrs) this seems to work fine for me, I've run dry at 219mls & 210mls (standard tank no mods) whilst relying on the guage, each time it took 19.8 ltrs to fill

Ive had a new fuel sender assembly fitted ( apparently) due to a sticking float. and new software download which enables me to scroll through the function button back to the DTE reading, wheras before, if i took a peek at the trip distance I couldn't return to the DTE reading unless I switched off the ignition ( I thought they all did that? Duh!!)
