Not sure if this is a fuel pump controller problem and I'm too tired to do a search.

Bike has 39000 miles on the clock 2004.

Out for a 550 mile spin this weekend and after filling up, the bike started to rev it's self up to about 2000rmp then died.

Pushed the bottom again and it started, away I went. So a half a tank later and in traffic the bike cut out, pushed the button it started and cut out again.

So I pulled over to the side of the road and replaced the fuel pump controller with the spare on I carry.

Pushed the start button and the bike started but on idle it continued to rev it's self, so I twisted the throttle and headed off.

Now I did notice that one of electronic noises that you hear when you turn the ignition on was missing, and I think that it is the first noise that,s missing.

I found that when I pushed the button I had to rev up to about 3000 to stop the bike from stalling and then it would idle fine.

Also some times the two distinct noises are there on turning the key and sometime only one of them are present.

So, is it a fuel pump failure, even after replacing the controller.?????????????

Usually when the FPC stops, the engine will not fire.

It sounds like something else.

Do a search for TPS reset, and do that first.

If that doesn't fix it, check your throttle cable from twistgrip to cable splitter box (under the tank) then to throttle bodies.

The electronic noise (FPC) only happens when the fuel system pressure needs priming and not every start.

Will do and thanks for the advice:thumb

My experience of FPC failure is that its all or nothing. To my knowledge, they don't play up and go on the blink, they completely fail and thats it! :thumb

(Que dozens of replies saying 'mine went on the blink for a few days before finally throwing in the towel'.......) ;)

Did search for TPS reset, followed the instructons and the bike seems to be ticking over perfectly now.
