1200 rear bevel box bearing info needed

My neighbor is currently in Chile with his 1200ADV and his rear bevel box bearing seems to have given up and he has asked if I can help.

Has anyone got a PDF copy of a 1200 manual, I'm specifically looking for the section covering the removal and replacement of the rear bevel box bearing.

The lowdown is there are 4 bearings.
2 for the pinion... Right pain in the arse to work on requiring jig and special tools.
The second two are for supporting the drive shaft. The large one nearest the wheel can be sourced from most bearing suppliers. The opposite one is BM only and bearing supppliers cannot get this.

My advice.. He's better getting a new unit shipped out. Even if it's the wrong one the worst he have is slightly incorrect final gearing and his speedo wont read... Oh, ABS too.

I'm not sure who is repairing it an the moment.

Judging by the way the bearing cage has broken up, I would say he way lucky the diff didn't self destruct

Update on the replacement

Thanks for all the replies. The mechanic is replacing the bearing as we speak and so hopefully we will be rolling again by tomorrow avo.

The trip had gone bloody well until then, Argentina all the way down to Ushuaia and back on Ruta 40 and Carreterra Austral in Chile, two up. Then Northern Chile and the Dakar.

There is a very good infrastructure in Santiago Chile to fix it but that is 2000 kms from here in Areqiupa, Peru.

I will keep you posted on progress. Once again thanks for the advice.

Not good by the looks of that pic, had a similar experience with a yamaha cush drive bearing once ( a damned sight easier to repair though).

Glad it is sorted.
