hands up if you read about being careful when doing the mod and the poor unfortunate tosser who threw one of the filler cap bolts into the tank!

and then got distracted by a 7 year old and did exactly the same

i will attempt to retrieve with a magnet, grabby thing, chewing gum on a stick etc, but if left will some tosser(s) please reassure me this will do no damage if left?

i feel a right tw*t

That's why it say put a rag in the filler neck!
I'm sure with the list of tools you have you will be able to find it!
I should not think it would do any damage but i would not leave it in it it were mine.

As they say 'you live and learn!'

We all make mistakes mate, why don't you just wait till the tanks nearly empty and then whip it off and turn it outside down.

I would be careful about fishing around too aggresively as you may well damage the guage sensor/sender.

Just a thought, there are loads of threads on tank removal, it sounds fairly quick and easy.

thanks guys - i will take the tank off and hopefully not f**k anything else up in the process :)

When you refit the QD connectors on the tank, try and line up the metal release clip, it is very easy to damage the "o" ring seal with the metal release clip, also a little bit of lubricant wouldn't go amis :ymca I use a tiny bit of vaseline, seems ok to me :thumb

When it falls over

I keep reading the threads on removing the bit out of the filler to make fill ups easier...
However, my question is, do you guys who make this mod go off road and/or fall off very often ???
I regularly fall off mine when playing (if your not falling off your not trying :D :D ).
Regardless of where the bike ends up, or how much fuel is in the tank it never leaks, is the tank still petrol tight if the bike is inverted or on its side or even upside down after this save you 30seconds mod is done ???

I keep reading these threads too and am amazed at how much bother (and risk of serious bother) peeps go to just to save an extra minute or two at the pumps. :nenau

Dont trap the throttle cable (on the left side) when you re-seat the tank.

Totally agree :thumb

The standard GS will do 200mls per tank without mods, plenty really.

What happens if you mod the tank fill her up then park up for a cup of tea or similar where does the cold fuel expand to :nenau all over the floor I bet

i dont get 200 miles on a tank as a majority of my riding is early morning at a fair lick so this will hopefully give me enough range to make the difference between filling up every 2 journeys to work and back to make it 3, which in these days of helmets off before you get served etc, will make a noticable difference, btw thanks for the extra tips :clap

Well yes, but what of it? if you do the mod, you know not to brim it full then park it in the sun

Your argument reminds me of that twat of a motoring journalist, Rutherford, hectoring a biker with the question "But what happens if you stop with your feet up".

When the biker eventually conceded that you would fall over, Rutherford smugly sat back and said "Exactly".

It gives you the option, see. Fill all the way when you are about to hit the next major leg of a journey. FIll up the normal amount when you are going to stop.

Not rocket science, really.

Even if you were to brim it and leave it in the sun, the bike isn't going to explode. Fuel / vapour will just make its way down the overflow.

Furthermore, why is everybody thowing bolts down their tank. You just keep the cap closed whist you take the bolts out.
