have a question about my gs when driving at high speed when i wind on the throttle the bike seems to shutter like as if it was spluttering as i am new to these bikes i am wondering is it anything to do with the shaft drive , this is my first shaft driven bike.

Mine too, I think that's the way they work - after a while you stop noticing it.

What do you mean by high speed? Have travelled at upto 115mph when allowed to on German autobahns and have never noticed any stuttering. Also, I have friends who are faster than me and they have never experienced this either. It needs investigating.

Power delivery should be smooth and certainly stutter free. It's nothing to do with having a shaft. Other than checking for a well mucky air filter there's not much that can be easily done without plugging it in to the diagnostic computer. If it were a 'normal bike the first thing I'd suggest is a weak mixture or a problem with the ignition coil/plugs. Is it standard or has it been messed with?

What bike have you come from?( 'blade by the looks of your user name!) if your used to the power delivery of a jap four then it takes awhile to get used to the GS, try dropping a cog. I've never noticed any stutter though

The bikes may need an update on the computer to smooth the engine out. I actually like the slight roughness of the boxer engine. The BMW K bike do nothing for me as they are too smooth.

It shouldn't stutter and the shaft's got nowt to do with it if it is. Are you sure its speed related or throttle position related?

maybe to do with throttle as i drive a fireblade as well, its only when i am at about 90mph and i open the throttle very quick .

The bike is bog standard might check out air filter and stick in a new set of plugs and see what happens.

Oh dear. A bit like expecting dog poo to smell of roses.

I had a similar problem when traveling at motorway speeds, when you opened the throttle the was a hesitation then it would pick up. First thing I checked were the spark plugs (always start with the simple things). The insulator was cracked on one of the plugs, a set of new ones and hesitation gone. If you've got a suitable spark plug spanner give it a go.

The only time I have ever felt the bike stutter was when I accidentally hit the rev limiter.

Spent last Moday at 100mph+ (an extended 120mph for an hour or so) on autobahn's going for the ferry after the german gp. No stutter but if you want acceleration response your only going to get it un der 100mph and by dropping a cog.

It will be good to get it checked and post what they find, if anything.

Thanks Frank. My arse has been associated with other bikes hence the comment. I've owned GS's for the last 10 years or so and they are a brilliant all rounder and perfect for my needs. However, though full of sophisticated electronics and clever design, there's no getting away from the fact it's producing about the same bhp/litre as did my triumph bonnie back in 1969. Compared to a 'blade it's about as powerful as a easter european cement mixer. In spite of that it all goes to show how little power is necessary to make very adequate progress on the public road but once over the ton you've probably had 80% of what the poor old donkey can give you wheras the blade has 80% more to go. Both are fantastic bikes, both very different.
