1200GS SE

You're asking the wrong bloke.

Had my 54 plate 1200GS from new, since Oct 2004...

...never kept a bike this long before.

It is my only bike.

(Actually, that's a semi-serious point. I haven't met you, att, but I do recall some rather rude gentlemen on her pointing out that you weren't the tallest of chaps. Worth checking out.)

Anyway.....moving one........If you are set on buying a 1200 then the 'SE' looks like a good deal to me.

I weighed it up against second hand GS1200, looked at them and could see no advantage to be honest. They seem to have improved the 1200 in the time it has been available, some issues have been addressed and it seems a good reliable bike, or as reliable as you are going to get......Nothing is guaranteed in this little world of fantasy of ours.
There does seem to be a lot of tech on this bike, but it seems to be OK, not perfect, but just OK, thats what a 2 year warranty is for.
Residuals seem to be good across the range and historically for a Special Edition firmer still. But I am not purchasing for that, I am buying for fun and to be frank, it did put a big grin across my face, hell, even the wife likes it:eek:
The best bit about it all is that it rides really well, it responds, it just puts a smile on the fizzog and thats all it needs to do really.....:thumb2

Sounds good. I went from an 06 GS to an 08 GSA and love/loved them both and have had no issues at all (but I am prepared just in case). Not sure if you are interested in off-road or not but would consider loosing some of the gizmo's like ASC and ABS if you are.
 
What is this SE version? Cant find any pictures of anywhere. How different is it?
 
I had an email from Bahnstormer about that, it looks to be very keenly priced, with some sort of special offer on panniers as well.

I did wonder if it heralds the end of the 1200GS or an attempt to shift bikes in hard times. Presumably at some point in time a new GS will put in an appearance?

That is the thing that worried me, the ASC and the ABS as I do intend taking it off road, I need to know what these gizmos are going to do in that situation...So far the sales guys seem to think it will be OK, but they want to sell a bike, not help me out of the shit in a far flung place....:D

So both of them are useless........beyond useless, they are dangerous off-road. Now they can be turned off with certain button presses/sequences before starting or moving the bike, but, riding off-road usually involves a fair pit of stop/start and can become a pain in the @rse. All of this is assuming they don't fail, which could be worse. The suspension settings remember the last setting so not as bad, and the general thoughts are that if it goes wrong you will be stuck on one setting which is not that bad.

Has anybody had a failiour of any of these gizmo's? - they sound like the devils work

No idea if any have failed, I don't recall any reports on here, but they still remain a pain if they are working becuase they revert to default settings when the ignition is switched off.
 
That's a nice looking bike, have bmw put the wheels, seat and engine guards from the GSA onto a standard GS? I had my GSA screen replaced under warranty and was told that the Tinted screen was actually cheaper than the clear one.
It looks good in the pics, has to look even better if you were collecting it and bringing it home.

I have not put my money down yet!.....I need a lot more persuading than what the dealer has offered so far, to part with £11,250 for what is just a motorcycle......:eek
 
Historically BMW have released an SE version of a model when it's due fir replacement and taken the oportunity to clear out the parts bin with upgrades.

Alpine White has been a recurring theme so this would seem to follow the trend.

If it moistens your gusset Att go for it, could be just the thing for a run to pastures new next year..............:augie:D
