That's oooo, let me see, a mint 1150 Adv plus a couple of dirt bikes. Or a winter hack and a brand new 'blade. Or a couple of dirt bikes, a 2 yr old 'blade and a winter hack. Etc, etc.

Or an absolute feck load of beer.

Or six months in Canada getting under the skin of those that may be able to employ you.

I am still struggling with all the technology on the bike, especially after reading the RDC thread!
I have seen a GS1200, an 04 model with 26000 miles on it, it has ABS though and the guy wants full money for it

As soon as you buy the bike write off 2k

Have ye had a wee look att an 1150

They are a far better off road and reliable bike and easier to mend at the side of the road

Still some cracking low milage ones about as on the whole most BMW riders never use them for what they are designed for and consider off-roading a gravel carpark
An 1150 with low miles box's lights ohlins etc should only be around £7k max so there's an 4k saving on the bike alone


Buckaroos may not come into your equation so here's a comparison

R1200GS = Navara/Freelander

R1150GS = Shogun/Patrol

No idea if any have failed, I don't recall any reports on here, but they still remain a pain if they are working becuase they revert to default settings when the ignition is switched off.

The suspension setting stays as at whatever you set it at . Turning off traction control and abs is a push button away - Tried it in the dirt and it does come off - the a button press and its back on again.

Suppose I would rather live with abs and traction control on the road and have the faff of a button press when I want it off.

Oh well, suppose I should wait for it to go wrong then

How can a bike carrying substantially more weight and with a deal less power be the better off road tool. To be honest neither are motocross bikes?

Also, if the 1150 is the far more reliable bike, what is the use of "its easier to fix at the side of the road" option for?

Suppose with a new bike you have the "ring BMW from the side of the road" and get them to fix it option.

IF the limited ed bike is a pointer to BMW releasing a new GS, does this mean that 1200 owers become the new 1150 owners ?

That means we are now in a position to start rippin the crap out of these new bikes and owners and tellin em how they brought the wrong bike and that they will continually brake down .............. I cant wait its about time we moved up the food chain a bit !!!

I despise the world of food with a passion and it is difficult to hide.
Goes against my integrity, I would rather do it my way and be open and honest.....I could still get in by paying 5.5K, but I am loathe to pay money to enter a country in what effectively would be under suspicious circumstances if scrutinised.

As for the bike thing, I am going to leave it for a few days, it is doing my swede right in.

Why would the suspension setting make him fall off?.

If you rode around on the road with full off road setting all the time then the bike handles like the General Belgrano and that would encourage me to bounce off into the nearest ditch / hedge / lamp post.

I've been across a fair few fields, dirt tracks etc. with the suspension in normal road mode with no ill effects. The only thing I always do is turn the abs / traction off so it will spin up and lock on the brakes. I change the suspention if it prolonged trail riding.

Probably had more to do with the gravel me thinks

Get a normal GS and add the wire wheels and knobblies.

Yes I'm pretty sure the gravel was the culprit but apparently the sus was set too hard for that type of terrain.

Fixed it for you. Feel sorry for his injuries, but not sorry enough to accept his excuse. That's the problem with the world today, no one takes responsibility for their actions.
