Friend of mine had a spill recently on gravel due to his speed still being set to 'Road'. Broken collar bone and ribs. Bike is a write off.

How can a bike carrying substantially more weight and with a deal less power be the better off road tool. To be honest neither are motocross bikes?

Also, if the 1150 is the far more reliable bike, what is the use of "its easier to fix at the side of the road" option for?

Not all GS riders think a run up the A12 is a big adventure and don't get upset because BMW assist did'nt arrive within 1/2hr

Suppose with a new bike you have the "ring BMW from the side of the road" and get them to fix it option.

My experience is only limited to F650, HP2 and 12GSA so I don't have much of a frame of reference for bikes capabilities off-road (although I have and do ride those bikes off-road). What did you find more capable in an 1150? All the paper facts suggest otherwise so I'd be interested to hear what makes it better.

I know 4000 miles since Feb - its bloody hard on ya tyres - I had to start going the other way after 2000 miles as the rubber was wearin down on one side !!!

Anyway - I'm too tall to be a donkey

Better gearing and more planted is what I found

Simon Pavey and the rest at BMW off road school prefered the 1150's too they may be better giving you a more technical explianation than me

After looking at 1200GS`s and realising how much money folk want for them, I have decided that they can all feck off
I have considered the 1150 and upon looking at the specs, the power to weight ratio especially, I have decided that the 1150 is a bit of a tractor....Well, not a bit, a lot!

So, if one of the dealers I have been dealing with can be bothered to call me back, they can have an order for a GS SE for delivery in July.....But the really funny thing is, the two of them have not bothered following up the lead One has had 48 hours the other has had 5 days
I can only guess that they have enough business and are not in need of mine.
I shall start calling other dealers countrywide to see if they can better the offer....
