1200GS Seat

Sargent

I went for a standard Sargent seat, although they are a bit expensive. Felt a bit odd a first, then after a long time riding I realised I hadn't thought about it, unlike my standard seat. I am 5 foot 8 inches and have no problems.

I got my front seat reworked by Viking Vinyl near brands Hatch.

They narrowed the centre foam, shaved off a layer of the seat foam and added a gel pad before recovering in the original cover. After a 5 minute test ride I got them to rework the front section of the seat again with a further small gel pad in the front groin area of the seat to prevent sliding into the tank.

The seat on standard low peg position is now perfect for me, yet looks stock until parked next to an identical bike. It becomes a little uncomfortable after about 4 hours riding, but thats because I'm not 'bike fit'.

In shopping for an aftermarket seat I tried Sargent and Corbin but found both to be afflicted with the dreaded forward down slope, not quite as much as stock but still bothersome. So if you're looking to buy an aftermarket seat make sure to try them. I ended up ordering one from Corbin requesting they heighten the front slightly which works out perfect for me in the high/high position. It provides all day comfort, the only minor issue is when stopped it's a longer reach to the ground because it's both wider and higher in the front. A couple of people who tried it liked it well enough to order it with the same modification.

I can understand BMW making their seats too low, or narrow. But why do they insist on making them sloped? I wish they'd bring their seat designer who did the /5 through /7's out of retirement.

Or simply copy those seat ideas. It's not like there is a copyright issue.

Yes, either way. It's depressing to see just how far the seats have "advanced".
