Hi all,

Really not sure if I want to pay out GBP 158.00 for the new GSA Tank bag after already paying for the standard GS Tank bag for my previous bike.

Has anyone removed the cross brace on the bars in order to use the standard tank bag?

I'm sure if I ask a BMW dealer they will not recommend it (and will happily take my £158 !)

Are there any real saftey issues with removing the cross brace for normal road riding?

I'm going on a European tour in the summer, which will all be on tarmac and will need a tank bag, so would appreciate some feedback if anyone else out there has tried this.

Cheers!

Just use the same bag. No problem. Just take the b-lls--t foam cover off the cross bar.You don't need a new bag.:thumb2

I was in the same predicament myself... carried over my old GS tank bag from the 1200 in order to use it on my new GSA.
I took the padding off the cross-brace and went for a week's trip around Ireland, it was a pain trying to do turns round in the road... the cross-brace dug into the front 'bulge' of the bag when on full lock.
Since I got back, I've removed the cross-brace altogether and the tank bag doesn't foul at all... as far as I can see, there's no difference with the the cross-brace off, and I've even been off-road.
I know that the new bag has a couple of advantages over the old one... but not £158 worth
My advice is to take the cross-brace off and try it yourself before comitting to another tank bag.
Hope this helps :thumb

thanks off piste and Ballistic,

Thought as much. I'm sure the bars are just as strong as the standard GS so can't see that there would be any real issue taking the brace off unless I was planning on traversing the Himalayas!

I agree, I'm sure the new tank bag is nice but I understand it is smaller and £158 is a bug ask
