1200GSA LC ESA harsh suspension

Bike collected and MUCH better, not perfect although I understand the system needs to do a little learning. It's only a five mile run from the dealer to home so I'll try and give the bike a good run tomorrow and see what happens.
Issue is software, something was missing!
I wonder if it's just your bike or is it a software update we all need?

You know what? I also have 4 Airheads that aren't affected by software, firmware, updates etc...oh for a simpler time!

Daedalus, It will be good to hear how it behaves on a decent run after the shock oil has warmed up, which will take more than 5 miles. please let us know how you get on.....?

150 miles on mixed A and B road in the Yorkshire dales yesterday, yes the bike is much improved and a much more pleasurable expirience to ride.
It still struggles with potholes but at least they aren't the bucking bone clattering expirience they were. My old 1150GSA was a much more comfortable ride!

That's great news Daedalus, now all we need to know is just what was done, presume it wasn't a placebo, and will other bmw dealers have the bulletin.

In fact can any of you guys in the know on this forum get a copy of the bulletin. now that would be a challenge!

Which dealer carried out the fix.

That would be nice to know. My dealer's mechanic plugged mine in then took it for a ride and says it seems like it's working ok. When I told him it's not working nearly as well as it did 10,000 miles earlier he shrugged.

As far as Johnny's 1150 they were pretty good old bikes back in their day. Surging and the too tall first gear come to mind when I think about mine.

That's exactly what my dealers mechanic said, so I asked him to take their demo bike out and compare.

When he returned he said "ah yes I see what you mean, there is indeed a problem with yours".

I think the bulletin covers something that was missing in the first place and not something that was there and has stopped functioning. At 10,000 miles I'm guessing your bike isn't a 2014 GSA which is what both my bike and the OPs are. Only guessing but your issue sounds more mechanical than software.

It is a 2014 GSA Daedalus. It feels like the shocks are packing up over repeating bumps and very harsh now on big bumps.

10,000 miles in only a few months... kudos to you :beerjug:

Thanks Daedalus, I'm having a good year!

I just had mine out today paying attention to where it seems to be worse. I weigh 210 pounds (but I'm on a diet :D) and set it on solo w/o luggage and normal damping. Riding over say a manhole cover that is recessed 1" I receive quite a harsh jolt in the bars then seat. Changing from normal to soft seems to make little if any difference over the same little abrupt recesses or bumps. Soft DOES make the bike sink down farther when riding into a dip in the road.

At 100kg , I have mine set on 'Rider + Luggage' - much better ride, set to NORMAL........ :thumb2

You pretty much describe the exact scenario I was experiencing...... you think this has developed/got worse as the miles have stacked up?

Mine sounds similar, only noticeable at lower speeds, town and villages, on poor or rippled tarmac, across the road repair strips, and manholes. It has a kind of a shudder or a double bounce as though the damping is not controlling the spring properly. At speed it seems fine and on decent roads its fine, so mainly at lower speeds.

Yes.

The most impressive thing about this bike (early on) was the way the dynamic suspension just soaked up bumps and broken pavement, it was incredibly effective. Now my Harley rides smoother.
