1200GSA Tank Bag question

I understand that the design of the tank bag for the 1200 changed at some point.

I'm trying to source one for a mate who has a 2011 GSA and I'd like to be certain that what I find will fit his bike.

Are they marked in some way to be able to tell? Or will any 1200GS bag fit?

The pre 2009 model GS tank bags will fit, as the tank design is the same.

The 2009 onwards GS tankbag could fit the GSA, but would need a GSA specific mounting strap (a longer reach), which secures between the front edge of the seat and tank. Please note also, that, on this option, there is also a risk of the front edges of the tankbag rubbing the paint on the tank.

Mike, unless your friend is truly smitten with the BMW tankbag, I would suggest the much better Touratwat one. The new Wunderliiiicht one, with the power connection cut-out hole thing is good, too.

Cue assorted: No it's not, yes it is.

Why is it better?

Easier to put on and off.

The map case is a sensible size.

The credit card holder pouch is good.

The cords to hold gloves when fiddling at the Border Agency's tea hut is a boon.

All in all 10/10 from me, after about 100,000 miles with one.

Richard, thanks but he has one already and the reason why he's looking for another (tatty) one is that he's going to convert it for carrying his Jack Russell. As he has the BMW version now, it makes sense to just use the fittings of the BM one.
