Hi,
On my old GSA I had an additional 12v socket connected (via a fuse) direct to the battery so that I could draw enough current to run heated jacket etc. (For those that haven't tried it the BMW supplied CANBUS socket trips out at about 5 Amps which often isn't enough to run your heated gear) I now have a 1250 and plan to do the same. Has anyone already done this and where did they put the socket / where did they connect wiring into ?

Cheers

Tonka

I’ve still got the one I took off my 1200 to fit BUT I want it in the mirror position of the OE one.
Finding a bracket the mark work isn’t easy.
Could be a ideal one for Mr Hooton?

Ditto, I'd like mine up there too, but I looked at making a bracket and decided that it was too much hassle to get it to both work and look right.

As far as I know there never was a socket wired directly to the batter via a fuse on the 1200 - the one by the seat was also can bus socket.

Put mine down by the starter. I find it more convenient (out of the way) for heated clothing.

Yep.thats correct the GS/ GSA has sockets all connected to the Canbus ring, Hence the OP asking for an additional socket to take more than 5 amps ,which means a direct to the battery connection

Thanks Tetley,

What did you wire it to. I looked at the battery (still the most likely) but I noticed another big fat terminal up near the ECU which seems easier to get at. Or is there somewhere else ? I'm still finding my way around the 1250 !

As per DC's comment.... the key word in my original post was "additional". It was because the others are canbus that I needed the "additional" one.

Straight across the battery with a 10a fuse. You can then also use it for charging. The battery cover is a bugger to get back in.

Ok, my fault, I misunderstood:)

I just use my optimate plug from the battery and plug a socket into that when needed. Its obviously permantly live . Saying that the one clamped to the frame looks neat .

Battery cover update. Like Tetley I found it a real PITA. Then I discovered 2 things, either of which may have helped.
1. The battery cover comes in two pieces, the outer part of which can be separated by pinging the 4 latches on the side which is nearest the battery. This may make it more flexible going back on + the outer bit can simply be pushed back in place after the inner piece has been re-installed.
2. I spent ages trying to attach either one or both of the two pins at either side and then push the bottom bit in. Waste of time. The bottom part has a plastic pin on it which locates in a hole which is inside the slot under the battery. Solution, fit the bottom bit first because you can lean it back towards you to get the pin in place. Once you have that the whole thing rotates foward and the left and right pins go in much more easily. And then you can click the outer part into place and fit the rubber strap which holds everything in place.

Hope that helps someone.
