Booked into supplying Dealer this morning (100 mile round trip) to investigate why been stranded a couple of times on my 20 month old R1250 when it flags up "Low Battery warning" after stopping to refuel for example and wont start, both times while waiting for BMW recovery it then started ? anybody else experienced similar problems with the 1250 / 1200 range?

I think if low battery warning on display, refers to the battery in the key fob, i assume your bike is keyless..

Have had a similar experience. Bike would not start after re fuelling, turned over then flashed up varies faults on tft. Did start after undoing petrol cap, go figure, fault seems to have been cured with software update. This was done December 2020 on a 2020 1250.

Hope this helps. Phil

So you have not seen the countless battery threads, my bikes shit posts on here?
For me I have a touratech tool box with puncture stuff and one of those compact jump starters, why because battery failures are not uncommon and I like to not rely on other people/recovery etc.

Of course I have seen and read the countless battery threads on here but as it seems a common problem I'm looking for the latest comments, thanks for your useful post:blast

Never thought to carry compact jump starter - seems a good idea. Any advice on which one? There seem to be numerous at various power levels and price points. Cheers. Not wishing to pinch the thread.

ive got one from the middle isle at lidl, worked perfectly when needed,on a triumph btw!

Thanks for that, I carry a battery jump start but as this newish BMW is still under warranty it is wise to get the dealer to sort it rather than rely on jump starting it occasional and ignoring the fault

:blast jeez no one is saying ignore it are they? so you were not in fact stranded as you had your jump pack? mountain out of a molehill springs to mind

oh dear, until you become a mod or the site owner i will post where i like thanks, another person who doesnt get the replies he wants and throws the toys around, how do you guys survive in the modern world? carry on

I have a 2019 GSA and had the same problem within first couple of months, was left stranded at the petrol station just like you. Bike back to dealer and they replaced the battery under warranty. Never had a further issue with it.

Happened to me last week on my 2019 1250. Went to get fuel (15 minute journey) and bike would not start after refuelling. Having tried a few times (it just feels like there's not enough juice to turn the engine) I waited about 20 minutes and tried again. It started. When I got home I put the battery on the Optimate overnight and it's been fine ever since.

So, I reckon it's just a battery that was slightly low on charge as the bike had not done much over the previous few weeks.

Same happened to me on Tuesday - went for fuel ten miles in and bike wouldn't start. Turned over for a second then stopped but threw lots of sensor warnings on the TFT. Left it 30 mins and it restarted so rode home - BMW Assistance came out and checked it but no faults recorded and battery was very good. Technician suggested could just be a sticky starter so I tested again yesterday and had no issues restarting.

I knew a guy years ago who was a mega-keen cyclist, you know, twat in Lycra type, even before it was fashionable. He was really into weight saving so drilled holes in every bit of his bike. He was a bit worried that he’d overdone it on the saddle tube so he carried a spare. Don’t think he ever saw the irony.

Yes. The exact same thing happened to me on my 2019 GS. There are lots of threads in here about it...which I found after being advised about them and posting just like you. First time it happened they swapped the battery at my expense saying a cell was dead. Next time it was my fault because I didn't have the bike on charge. At that point i kicked up a but of a fuss. The long and short of it is that apparently it could be one of a few things. Could be battery problems. Could be the compression release valve on I think the left cylinder sometimes doesn't open enough to allow for decompression for easy start up. So effectively the engine is trying to push against a closed volume. My dealer refused to recognise it as a problem with anything other than the battery despite me providing excerpts from on here showing various threads about it being a known problem. I ended up changing my bike.
