I have a new 1250 GSA Ralleye. Whilst touring Spain recently 2 up fully loaded the engine seemed to miss a beat occasionally.

The problem consistently occurred in third gear at 3,500 rpm climbing a hill.

It was just like the autoblipper had kicked in for a gear change.

I have to the dealer about it and he knows of no typical problems.

Is anybody else experiencing this.

Chris

Maybe bike was struggling a bit uphill fully loaded, and with the heat, maybe it was gasping for a tad more fuel.........:nenau

The fuelling should in theory sort itself out. I do have an akrapovic on it with the baffles out which came from my old 1200. But the dealer reckons this shouldn't have any impact

Talking to the BMW techs today.. and they say no problems as yet with the 1250's which is good... thin air maybe? and the Akro won't help

but was it hot?.. I always put my std exhaust back on when touring

I had a full Termignoni system on my Hypermotard and the up map that goes with it

Last year in the mountains at 40 degree heat the fueling was just shocking and almost made the bike dificult to ride as it was literally either on or off regardless of twisting the throttle

It was fine once at lower altitude and cooler air

I mentioned it to a Ducati owner who lived in Portugal and had brought his bike out from the UK who said he had needed a Hot weather map in his to get it to run properly

I took my Ducati to the alps a few years back. It deffo had some hiccups under load and felt somewhat breathless. I put it down to altitude and the higher ethanol fuel which knocks the octane down as it vanished afterwards. My mate had it on his KTM as well. To the point he took a bottle of fuel additive the next year to counter it.

Ive done it on air heads many times, with carbs.. never a problem... new tech aint always better ;)

It wasn't that hot only about 23c no hotter than in the uk

Well post number 7 gives a rough idea surely what has happened, and also in Spain different fuel, could have been a little lower quality, the ECU will adapt eventually but it does need time, and your bike is still new, the new BMW,s have altitude sensors I am led to believe, so do have the capacity to adapt to many situations, but we must remember, the bikes do run quite lean, but should adapt as they go along, if it was maybe lower quality fuel, the ECU will have adapted to this after a while but would still be gasping for a bit of fuel, if the fuel was not the best, Roger 04T might jump in later and explain this better.

I experienced something similar to this, seemed to be popping a lot on acceleration, that was with a Yoshi exhaust on from my old 1200

Have since put the stock exhaust back on and it's fine

The misfire/blip was very consistent always at the same point in the rev range and occurred every time I pulled through under load. It could be fuel I suppose. I always use shell in the uk but was putting in whatever came along in spain. I need to see how it performs no I am back

Now this is just me and I’m no fuelling or power expert but two up, uphill, at altitude. 3.5k is the absolute lowest I would be pulling from. I know they are torquey but I’m always paranoid about lugging the engine.

Is it the shift cam working? Its more noticeable under load.

I have ridden a lot in Spain and never had an issue with fuel, cars or bikes, hot or cold ,up in the mountains or down by the coast. Poor fuel tends to give problems with one particular tankful, when touring on a bike you fill up once or twice a day so a poor fuel issue should quickly dissapear.
My GSs have always had full systems on them, never any issues.

Fully loaded two up 2500rpm uphill no problem, on the flat 2000rpm and around town solo I can do down to 16/1700rpm in the first 4 gears. Maybe I am lucky and have got a smooth engine, A GS riding friend tried my bike and said it was very smooth, it was quite happy at 29mph in 6th gear, you certainly wom't be harming it at 2500rpm.

It could be I’m just too big and fat...
On the flat I would regularly pull from 2k. Up in the hills I just tend to use much higher rev range.

Ah, I am a weedy 10.5 st and the Doris 9.5 in the last two years we have dieted off a combined 4st, the weight of the luggage, it has made a noticable difference in performance.
