1250 picture

everyone is assuming the 12 will disappear once the 1250 comes out,the 1250 will prob be a premium price, whos to say the 12 wont run alongside it in the range for another 2 years as it easily passes the forthcoming emissions regs?

Possibly limited production ability. They have struggled to keep up with orders as it is from time to time without making 2 completely different models. The current 1200 has had a long run, its time to retire me thinks.

i hope the 12 continues,it wont sound the same covered in a water jacket and will fuel volume be compromised on the adv version? cause i hate petrol stations:rob

Hmm, faster, heavier, probably quieter (until some of you change the can ) ...possibly the best bit might be an adustable screen à la RT- check out those strips of black plastic down the screen and compare the two bikes in the third photo...imagine that - if the thread about windscreens was no longer the longest thread in the forum...

MMMmmmm, luvverly.....But it looks so 'soft' and 'fragile' and it'll date quicker than a 'Tramp stamp'....!

Oh, hang on I said that in 2004 about the 1200

It won't sound the same due to new stupid euro laws on noise

thats an easy fix, no doubt there will be a new line in BMW approved Akro pipes ready to be fitted by your friendly stealer before you pick it up. Apart from that it will have an exhaust valve same as the twin cam so it will only be quiet at low revs. Have you heard the noise the new Porches and Ferrari's make and they all meet stricter euro rules than bikes have to.

Yeah but I do wonder how long manufacturers will be able to get away with these 'tricks' before the euro regs guys clamp down on it :nenau

Yes you have a point there. I suppose the Akro pipe wont get caught up in the new euro laws since it is factory approved but if they introduce emissions tests on bikes it will be game over for that route. Course you could swap pipes at MOT time I suppose.

another interesting pic for those not following the huge thread on Adventure rider.

Wethead.jpg

Shows there are no separate cylinders any more as they are part of the crankcase casting. It is possible that it is a wet liner though which means you don't need new crankcases £££££ if something goes wrong or wears out.

Looking at the crankcase picture

It doesn't look like BMW have figures out yet that it takes 2 balance shafts to take out the vibes from an offset horizontally opposed twin.
Maybe someone should tell them.
The current system, which it looks like they are replicating, quarters the magnitute of the oscillations & multiplies their frequency by 4.

Myke

Maybe because of this:

Watercooledboxer.jpg

Gearbox is built into the engine with a wet clutch so the box turns the other direction. Easiest way to fix that is to effectively turn the FD upside down which means its on the other side.

In that pic, it appears that there is a set of gears AND a chain driving the same shaft. Isn't that gonna create a little problem, since they're trying to turn the shaft in opposite directions?

Also, is that the starter motor INSIDE the tranny? That can't be right!

You mean the cam chain which loops of the shaft that is actually driven from the front of the crank?
Hang on I see what you mean, the gear and the chain at the front that looks like they are both driving the chain shaft?

who knows how accurate that render is or isn't but we will find out in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, that's what I was seeing. And how 'bout the starter inside the tranny?

I guess they MIGHT try something like that, but do you think they actually would??

Not sure that's a starter, its too small I think plus like you say a dumb place to have it. More like a damper or something but probably also none existent. The other render I posted would seem not to be accurate either as it shows water cooled barrels where pics of the actual bike seem to show air cooled barrels. Some of the guys over on advrider seem to think the clutch is actually at the front of the engine same as the CX and I think ST? engines. Its all guesswork in the end and the latest which seems to be official press release stuff is that it isn't a 1250 but a 1200. No idea where the 1250 idea came from anyway other than the next step of 1100-1150-1200 type thing. The press releases are over on the advrider thread although its a monster thread.

Same shite as before

Drawing is correct on camshaft chain/gear drive. Gears drive the hollow camshaft jackshaft, and the so called balance shaft rotates inside it The knob on the end is the overhung extension of the balance shaft to try and damp the oscillations.
