I did that many times but obviously they did not listen…LOL The firmer head of BMW Motorrad said the new GS does not need more power but sone people WANT more power because it is FUN and exciting so I guess we dont need to buy a new GS…LOL Anyways 15 hp more as the Bike dyno suggested is better than nothing but still shy of XR excitement levels but a smaller tank is stupid and totally kills it…What are they thinking it is a Enduro ridden mostly off road without centerstand , passenger pegs and luggage rack to advertise the 12 kilo weight savings…The GS is a modern version of a sport-tourer that can take the occasional unpaved road ! In that regard the small tank range is a joke and why not 320 mm rotors and linked to the front foot-brake instead of the only linked hand brake are steps in the wrong direction too…

Yes I still think about the XR especially since BMW after all the years finally fixed a apparent flaw and made the seat flat for ‘24 to be able to hang off more easily But deep down I love the Boxer with TL & cardan more than a inline-4…Boxer - LUST lol
But the M1000XR is a mighty fine track bike for people tired of getting tortured by small sportbikes with questionable ergonomics forced into the missionary position…LOL That drew many of us to the GS in first place after all .
Have you ridden the M1000XR on track ? Or any XR on track ?

Indeed. A sports tourer is a bike with decent performance and safe predictable handling that is equipped and has the ergo to suit touring. It is not a super naked screaming sports bike like an MT10 (although I know of several guys who have toured using theirs). The whole RXXXX boxer range can be said to have these credentials with the right accessories and where we have the R1200/250RS which is the factory boxer sports-tourer. It ticks all the boxes required of a sports tourer. Anyone who states that "they don't have enough performance" for a sports tourer is talking out of their bottom parts. In a field of sports bike IL4 equipped sports tourers, they have that lazy low and mid shove that makes for the whole point of a sporty tourer, effortless mid range shove. I was impressed with the GSX1000GT but would I would rather have the riding experience of my current boxer. In some ways, I preferred the low and mid grunt of my old FJ1100 to the new GSX which needs spinning up a little more and found the older FJ superbly all day comfortable, as was the FJ1200. Even today, those purpose conceived big sports tourers had more than enough performance for the roads. Track days are another matter and are sports bike domains. You can have fun on anything on two wheels. It doesn't need 150 plus BHP to have fun.
Character is another matter. I've never really owned any IL4 which I considered "Characterful". That, from my experience has been where Vee twin lumps, big singles and boxers score highest.

After 100 km on my new boxer….yep. A great engine. Lovely to be back on a Beemer.
Yes I have ridden not only every gen S1000RR on the track but also Both gen 1 and gen 2 S1000XR on the track and except for the saddle that makes moving on the biker harder they were just as much fun and as fast except for a few mph on the straights but way more enjoyable because more comfortable than the RR…I remember there is some video on the Tube where some british superbike pro rides both RR and XR and is only a second faster on some british track…That should answer it all ! The new M1000XR will be a formidable track weapon but BMW made the mistake to leave the bags and center stand off the options list…So no sport tourer but comfortable track bike where you dont have to torture yourself especially if you are not short or tiny and above 40 tired of folded up like a pretzel…
But no problem as 170 hp of the regular XR is enough to have fun especially as it looks like they finally formed the seat so that you can move on the bike for 2024 but still cant get triple-black with the forged wheel - Akra pipe M package…Stupid ! As for the RS vs the GS as best sport-tourer…For me the GS wins easily no contest at all…The RS fork is not as good as the Telelever absorbing bumps or on the brakes , the GS steers quicker and the RS drags the centerstand which can be dangerous…Yes the RS looks nice and is not a bad bike but the GS is the better sports-tourer and that is also true in comparison with the lighter R1250R…That is how good Telelever is because the R has 17” wheels…LOL
I've been out on wet dirty roads today and i find the new bike very confidence inspiring even though it was horizontal rain and we were nearly getting blown off the bikes. It seems to stay a bit cleaner than the 1250 apart from the back seat gets a bit of spray which is a bit daft when they could have fitted a decent mud guard. Hopefully someone will make a tail tidy to lift the number plate up and forward which might solve the prob.

No, that never happens. It's also far more sporty to ride than the standard GS and certainly more sporty than the GSA. It's geared differently, pulls harder from mid revs, accelerates quicker and is more planted and stable in corners because it's not so flighty as the standard GS. I've owned and ridden or toured on all three of those bikes. You do talk a lot of nonsense Boxerlust! It wouldn't be so bad if you said "in my opinion" but you keep state falsehoods as facts, just like your ridiculous "flexible frame" comments...Block paving looks immaculate. Sorry but , I was given an Rs for a loan bike for two weeks once , could not wait to give it back it was not good and no way as good as the Gs as you say , it was a road focused bike but found it lacking in its ability to go as well as the Gs could , okay on Welsh roads but a road is a road and the Rs struggled as it lacked the surety of the front end compared to the Gs . IMHORS dragging centrestand?

Alas, I have to agree. I had a couple of days on an RS as one of the staff riders on a demo day. IMHO, my RT actually handles better.
They are the best looking boxer, bar none, though.

Well, everyone finds something to float their boat and the RS does it for me. I find it planted, rapid and comfortable and prefer it over my 1200 GS. I wouldn't go back to a GS after having the RS now. It definitely goes better than my previous GS. I don't think a one off ride will form a proper impression. I found my GS bloody awful on front end feel, changed the tyres and that solved it. My RS is shod in new Metzler Sportech se01's and there's bags of front end feedback compared with the old ones. One thing about the GS and more so the GSA was I had to put more faith in what the front was doing whereas feedback on the RS feels more positive. I've covered thousands of miles since the summer on it, and am liking it better and better
