1250 to 1300-Is it worth the upgrade ?

RS or R dragging the centerstand no that never happens…Morety you should have said that that never happens to you instead of saying I tell nonsense ! I remember back when the R and RS came out back in 2015 I thought what was BMW thinking ditching the way superior Telelever for a conventional fork and after dragging the centerstand after 15 minutes I thought these bikes are way less sporty on backroads compared to the then all new R1200GS ADV I tried before…What I will give you though the RS is more stable at high speeds but thats about it as the GS is a much better Sport tourer when the roads get twisty…Even if the specs dont suggest so ! I would even prefer the bigger 1250 RT over RS or R because of the Telelever which is not a good bike for the hemisphere I live in getting too hot in summer but perfect for england where it is mostly cold & wet…LOL

No, the centrestand never drags, bounces on the spring nor does anything else to unsettle the bike, at least not with me nor has one of my riding buddies ever experienced that with his. If you have the suspension settings set to anything other than dynamic on the ESA equipped bike, it can be choppy on anything other than billiard smooth roads which are a rarity in the UK. Personally I do think that the 1200 (less so the 1250) dynamic ESA isn't worth having on the RS because they've set it up so terribly. I simply don't understand how the suspension team at Motorrad ended up ticking the box on the way they set the RS Dynamic ESA up as the on road setting, it can easily bottom out and is under damped. It's not as good as the implementation on the GS or GSA where its dialled in far better. Left in dynamic though it's absolutely fine and transforms the handling. Anything other than dynamic, it's not. I leave the engine mode on dynamic too in all but wet or greasy road conditions, where its left on the road setting. When pushing on, it's definitely more sports oriented than the GS imho and once I got used to the transition from the GSA back to conventional forks, I found that I could hustle it far quicker and with more confidence than the GS or GSA in the corners. Granted, slow speed handling doesn't have the turn in confidence of a GS but you soon get used to that and the rock solid stability for me is where it wins out.

I really wanted to like Both the R and RS because I loved my 2 R1100S and would not have bought 3 R1200R bikes with T-L which were essentially R1200GS’ with 17” front wheel if I did not like them…But the lack of ground clearance aka dragging center stand and way inferior fork killed it for me right after a couple of 30 minute test rides and I remember the then all new but way bigger and heavier R1200GSLC ADV much sportier and more fun to ride ! I tried a friends R1250RS later and yes it was more stable at high speeds and taller geared for better mpg but way less fun/sporty on back roads than the GS…My buddy must have felt the same because he bought a GS too despite not liking the looks and being too tall for him…LOL Hope BMW replace these bikes with something with Telelever…Like a new R1300S as good looking and versatile for tour & track as the R1100S was and a XR with a Boxer with some more beans based on the GS with stiffer suspension , lower handlebar and 17” wheels 👍And of course a 24 liter tank like they run in WSBK…LOL

Looks great with the Gold OZ wheels and small black screen.

Enjoy the new Ride Stick and if you are not running the tank dry within 120 miles you are going too slow…🤣👍 I know Reggie wont agree with me I rather have the stock 19 “ forged front but would Love to see a M or XR version done with the right geometry , 17 “ front , lower handlebar and 1000 tpm more on top / 15 hp more , 24 L WSBK tank volume straight from the factory 🏭🙏👍Dual Angle eye headlight like on the M cars and real taillight and underseat exhaust that is louder than the clatter from the valvetrain and I would say oui , oui tres magnifique I get le grande Boner 🤣👍

It's a bumot tool box that iv'e had on my1250 to carry puncture gear. Handy on those forest tracks :D
Bodged the front fenda extenda on for now until they make one to fit. Surprising what you can do with a heat gun.20231219_134229.jpg

From the side tank , frame and subframe look weird and I wonder how people who do trackdays on their GS’ will feel when they hang off braking hard going into turns can still use the leg to brace against the tank looking how flat and dirtbike like it looks now…
