1250 v 1200 is it worth it?

Got 1250 gsa TE a couple of weeks ago and still have 1200 triple black.......want sure at first whether to dive in........I did dive in and after a 300 mile play around the dales and lakes I was smiling from ear to ear....what a machine. Doddle to connect tft to nav and Shoei neotec2....music playing, phone connected....off I went......
Quieter, guicker and much smother and it’s not even had first service yet.
Can remember a ride (on a bike) where I didn’t want to get off......
If it had a dress on I’d fuck it......the end.......
Now go and buy one.......

Rode the 1200 and 1250gs on the Ride Mag comparison at Bruntingthorpe test ground. Not enough in it for me to swop out the 2017 Rallye.6k was the figure to change.
Yes the 1250 has more when given full beans but for everyday road riding the 1200 lc has plenty for moi.
My Rallye is improving and smoother with mileage ,gearshift pro smoother could just be me getting used to it. Will be interested to see how the shiftcam holds up over time on the new bike.

Interesting all this. I changed my bike each year until I had a 2010 twin cam from new - brilliant bike. Never tried the LC because I knew that if I did I would buy one.

Last year I tried a 2017 LC then bought a 1250 without trying it.( On the basis that it would be even better than the 1200 LC). Well after only 400 miles my thoughts when comparing against the 2010 TC bike are as follows:

Much much quicker
Suspension is better
Handles better
TFT is excellent
Engine very quiet in comparison with the TC
Exhaust note initially a bit pathetic but an Akropovic has significantly improved the sound. Never had an Akropovic on the TC
Smoother but a little more 'buzzy' although I think it still has character
Brakes similar but rear brake seems stronger
Don't like the indicators but I guess I will get used to them with time. Don't know why BMW changed from the old switches on each side which were so easy and intuitive to use.
Cruise control very good

Overall to me it seems to be an amazing bike which now needs a good farkeling!

Is it worth the change?
Depends how much spare money you have but there's nothing like having a new bike. :-)

Satnav in the TFT is already possible via your cell phone... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzDZ_6WpCMQ

Which also has me thinking... Whether it really makes sense to sell packages with the satnav cradle, when the TFT screen is standard..

Because the display only gives you very basic directions, a Nav 5 or 6 will give you a detailed map you can use the whiz wheel in the left handlebar scroll into or out of as well as other fuctions you get with a dedicated satnav plus the nav also allows you to display up to 16 different readings from the ecu like tyre pressures, engine temp etc.

There is no map display on the TFT, just turn distance and direction symbols, and audio prompts. In my opinion there is nowhere near enough space to include a map display, as the actual active space on the display is quite small compared to the complete unit. I am already disappointed at the inability to display more information simultaneously, forcing you to scroll through a long list of things to choose the single item you are allowed to display - a wasted opportunity to make the screen much more informative. Is it too much to ask to be able to see tyre pressures and fuel use or odometer or tripmeter at the same time? Also, there is probably not enough bandwidth in the phone to TFT connection to keep a detailed map updated. In other words, don't hold your breath waiting for a software upgrade to provide this! I think if it comes it will be in the form of a secondary display with a faster connection to the phone.

Apart from a better map on the move the navi don't really have anything on the build in SatNav support - A phone offers the same maps, but obviously can't be used whilst riding (unless you have a wunderlinq!) - the info/readings about the bike is also on TFT..

I was chatting with my dealer yesterday and yes I am sure that for sum it will be worth it
Only thing I REALY picked up was their will be no discounts as bmw cannot make enough
And supply is getting tight so 20k for the privalage of owning a new 1250 then

I got a whole £350 off, but had to tick pretty much every option - so not really a saving.....!

I will get one, not just yet.

I'm sticking a set of Ohlins on the R1200, new steering damper, set up the cams, maybe a fancy new seat.

Run it through 2019... and probably 2020....

2021 I'll change it then :)

How are you going to ‘setup the cams’

Or one of these for a fraction of the price? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/For...69.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.50da13545wz2Rt

I've ordered one but can't comment on it just yet since it's still in transit, but I can give some comments once it arrives if people want. :) I think all it does is hold your phone and allow for charging, rather than the more in depth features that the Wonderling seems to provide, but it's enough for me to display maps and things while riding and for way less money than that or a Nav 5/6.

Not a GS but in a similar vein.
I've got a 2016 1200 RS and got quite excited when the 1250 engine was announced. I guessed you boys would get it first in the GS and the RS would get it 18 months/2 years later. BMW then showed images of the new RS and (it's only my opinion) they've fucked up the styling. The GS as far as I can see still looks the same. If they had just bunged the new block in and left everything the same then my order would be in. For that reason my 1200 is a keeper,I'll have to live without the extra bhp and torque.

Bought one

I went to Marshall’s Grimsby today and test rode a 1250 TE what a lovely bike it handles very well, very smooth power delivery so impressed I ordered the Exclusive and got a reasonable discount on brand new. :)
