1250 v 1200 is it worth it?

Hi Neil, I agree with most of the above (having gone from 2017 GSA ESA > 2017.5 GS ESA (long story) > 2019 GSA 'base' (no ESA), but so far (playing with the manual pre-load and damping adjustments at the rear end) I can't say I prefer the 'feel' of the non ESA suspension compared to the sublime ride of the ESA on my 2 previous GSs. It's been a while, but I even (possibly) think the ride on my pre ESA 2004 GS might have been better (but that's probably a bit of rose tinted glasses talking - and also the higher mileage of that one bedding it all in etc). How do you have your non ESA set up currently and what is it that you prefer about it over ESA? Is there any adjustment on the non ESA front end on these?

My own Basic is set up at 2 clicks from the lowest setting on preload and lowest but one damping setting and it is smooth and compliant ............................ all of the older LC models I have ridden have had a harsh and uncomfortable jiggly ride, the 2018 model I rode was an improvement and the 1250 was better again but on certain road surfaces (the uneven and broken stuff that is everywhere around here ) it still had hints of that previous harshness .

Personally I vowed never to have another ESA bike after the numerous and continuous expensive issues with my 2014 model

Thanks dude. That's about where I have my suspension settings, give or take. (I think I tried them both on 'zero' the other day and then subsequently applied 1-2 clicks to each). My 2017 GSA (ESA) was definitely more 'planted' than my 2017.5 GS (ESA) which I put down to the higher weight of the GSA, but it did also have slightly different fine tuning I recall (GSA had the little helmets for solo or with pillion and soft <> hard etc - whereas the GS had high<>low I think - or possibly the other way around!) Tyres obviously made a difference too. What tyres are you running? I have the new Anakee Adventures on mine which are no doubt harder than the A41s for example. I haven't test ridden a 2018 or 2019 GS with ESA, so my memory of ESA is all on 2017 stuff. Is the front end adjustable? I think where ESA really comes into play, is when the road surface changes suddenly - and also on fast bumpy back roads - where it irons out the bumps irrespective of the speed (especially in road rather than dynamic mode).

1250 v 1200 is it worth it? Absolutely after a 2013 GS, 2014 GSA, 2016 GS all good bikes the 1250 is a big step ahead again..Yes expensive to upgrade but their you go, you only here once. Didn't really want to upgrade my 2016 was really good but after that fatal test ride that was it.
Suspension in Auto works well, or go for Max for plush ride or Min. Engine is fab.will pull from any gear forward no more need to down change.
Bumble along enjoy the landscape, or be a hooligan...:P went over Hartside today, boy in dynamic mode up that hill and bends, great fun.

Yep

3 months in and 3,560 miles......Just back from a Scottish Solway Coast run, full luggage, wife.

Miles include out with the "Lads" on a weekend, 7th GS in 20 years, best bits from all my previous models.

Just a superb Motor cycle.

A bit pricey mind!

Will have to sell my HP4 to fund this.

So that must take the bike way over £ 20k.
Madness !!!!

Who cares???
Some people will say that you are mad, and yet you seem to be doing fine. :blast

The cost is slightly more than a full Acra system and a HT job. In my book this is a better way of spending the same amount.

I love it when people do what they like. In this case the spending is visible, but makes no noise. (The noise comes from poor people).

I have seen some of the 719 options from BMW. And while it hardly serves any other purpose than being visible, the components are beautiful made and make the bike stand out. :clap

I take your points. But wouldn’t BMW be better improving the quality of the parts on the basic bike rather than charge a small fortune for bling ?

Eliminating the annoying problems doesn't feed the Extended Warranty monster cash-machine... that needs to be fed regularly with paid up god-fearing subscribers...

Fuck everyone else.

Bling, shiney farkles sell :D

Thicker paint, non-rusting shafts, expedition quality spokes, strong forks, don't sell.... that's the boring (actually important riding stuff) that nobody thinks about until after owning it.

BMW is all about the lifestyle image
