1250GSA battery replacement

Motobatt for me too - put on the Yuasa 16ah around 4 years ago, replaced a couple of weeks ago due to slow cranking. It never showed more than 12.7v off-charge. The new Motobatt hybrid is currently showing 13.4 after not being used since last Thursday, despite the bike having a tracker.
Exactly what I found, couldn't even use the GS-911 because the battery would never be high enough for it to work

Since going over to the Motobatt absolutely no issues.

Guys if you want real cranking amps (350) then I cannot stress enough to buy the hybrid battery and NOT the Yuasa

My Yuasa still couldn't keep up with the GSA and left me stranded on a couple of occassions so after reading what Pukmeister had done I opted for one of these

Absolute zero issues since (Nov 2022), doesn't need a fancy charger (I charge mine using a CTEK 5.0), weighs much less and you gain space inside the battery box. Absolutely brilliant battery

As an absolute idiot at batteries - is this bigger then the stock one?

I am keen to replace mine (as I am unsure if it's been replaced since new so 3 years old).
Glad your Hybrid is still cranking out the easy starting, as is mine.

Bloody thing bursts into life whether hot or cold, short trip or long (unlike the crap OE battery).
What is the easy start?

Its actually smaller (shorter so room for wires) and weighs much less but has almost double the original cranking amps because of the lithium part

Its basically a lead acid battery connected to a Lithium jumper battery hence the sizxe and weight saving and increase in cranking

I've had mine on since end of 2022 and not once have I had an issue...where as I had numerous on the Yuasu battery despite being high powered and as @Mr Bean pointed out you will see better readings from the battery voltage

You will not be dissapointed

He just means its much easier to start with these hybrid batteries because they have much more cranking amps.

Once fitted you will instantly hear the difference I absolutely promise you

Ha - odd. I had an issue recently where I tried to start it (bike was cold) and it just ticked. Had to put ignition off and back on a few times and try crank then it fired to life.

Might be time for a new battery then. Would this Motobatt work fine if I were to use an optimate charger through the charging port on the side of the bike to charge when not in use?

Does the Motobatt MHTX16 Hybrid Lithium Battery play nice with an Optimate though?

Edit: Yes it charges fine with an Optimate 4 👍

Absolutely.

It is a Hybrid AGM/Lithium unit, so two battery technologies combined into one box with a battery management circuit inside. The AGM handles the day to day load and the Lithium handles/boosts the heavy lifting such as starting.

Why not go visit the manufacturers website and see for yourself ?

Prices have come down as well:

Which option on the Optimate would you select then? Haven't got my Optimate yet.

I select BIKE/AGM on my CTEK 5.0

Just remember it does state by the manufacturer to NOT leave it on a battery charger as there is no need, just put it on charge every now and then

Not once has mine dropped so it takes literally an hour to be back to full charge

Went for the Yuasa YTX14H-BS in the end, now fitted. Was a bit of a fiddle with the plastic cover but all good. Supplied by Tayna batteries £80 next day delivery. Thanks all for your input..

I’ve just found myself in need of a battery, current one is eight years old so I don’t reckon it owes me anything, but cause I’m a tight wad, I’m struggling with the idea of paying practically double the price for the Motobatt hybrid over a Yuasa H spec…🤔
Especially as I know some time ago Motobatt went through a period where they were having issues (I used to work in the trade), but new technology, advances etc…🙈

I fitted the Yuasa YTX14H-BS supplied by Tayna, like you I considered the Motobatt and thought it a bit pricey. The Yuasa certainly has more umph than standard battery but it was 4 years old and has a tracker taking power. Incidentally stock battery is a made in China Exide, Yuasa YTX14H-BS made in USA...

Its pricey because it has twice the cranking amps

half the weight and smaller size despite the above

and doesn't need a special charger

I’ve just fitted the Motobatt Hybrid to my 2023 GSA. Original battery was struggling, showing 12.1v straight off a trickle charge, and down to about 10v during crank. No such problems now, showing 13.7 at rest when not running, and only goes down to 12.7 during crank. Thought about the Yuasa but thought I’d not mess about and go straight for cranking power.
Those thinking about it just do it. If you can find one. I took the last one from Motorworks.
To be honest I would have expected the original battery to last more the 20months.

So may bike battery is dying.
once away from the optimate i notice each time i stop/start its getting harder to start.
ive started carrying my Noco GB40 ready for the inevitable.
I've had this GS 5 years now and it's the same battery, so its time.

Been looking around on the tinterweb and the price for the Motobatt seems to vary lots!
Motorworks want £144 (none in stock)
Tayna are doing it for £83.35... is it the same battery? LINK HERE

if it is i am ordering today lol

Can someone who knows please confirm its the high crank hybrid version

the Tayna one in the yellow case is not the high output job. It is an aGM battery (sealed lead acid in a glass mat).

Your Motoworks link does not work
They have the yellow one for £80 https://www.motorworks.co.uk/battery-ela31122-1.html

They have an alternative AGM one for £80 https://www.motorworks.co.uk/battery-ela05650b-1.html - it has an almost identical spec to the yellow one but has HD in the name, I think for Harley Davidson.

Your £144 battery is the hybrid that has AGM and Lithium combined. Some claim this is better than the OE fitment as it is lighter by 2.5kg, although a course of ozempic might be a better option for them

Personally, I would go with the black AGM one with orange logos as this is close to OE spec. and nicer looking than the yellow one.

The lithium Motobatt MBTX16 is like rocking horse shit.
and Halford dont have ANY for a GS

So it does look like i am going to have to buy something else.
Motobatt MBYZ16HD as you say looks favourite, especially with the terminals being easy access.

Edit:
Just looked again, that's deceiving, i thought there was a positive and negative each end.
Its not, well that's a bit shitty lol
