Only advantage I can see on the GS is the pillion comfort - and maybe the shaft drive assuming it will outlast a KTM chain and require less maintenance. But is costs more (and a lot more taking into account the deal I got on a "leftover") has a lot less power (further reduced by aforementioned shaft) carries more weight and requires more frequent / more expensive servicing.
Would never seriously consider a Ducati myself, I am sure they are great to ride but put off by the servicing costs and problems experienced by mates.
The Japanese are not doing anything I like the look of at the moment, even if I did not want another adventure bike I would probably want the SD GT instead - as well of would work even better if I had the cash.
