12GSA high quality pics

I like it, but then I like the standard 1200 too. I won't be changing, because I don't want an even heavier bike!

I think North and Tobers may be on to something :D

Overall I like it very much. I've had a deposit down for many months and now I've seen the photos I think I'll go ahead. The weak points with the current 12GS are the luggage system (plastic not strong enough) and the tank range (281 miles is my record).

The wider tank and the small plastic wind deflectors below the windscreen will probably help with weather protection. The screen is wicked. I don't like the tank covers as much as the beautiful (ME262-shaped) tank on the 1150GSA, but it looks like the tank covers are separate from the tank which will hopefully mean an end to most dented tank incidents--just replace the plastic cover.

I like the revised rear rack/grab handles arrangement with the rack extending further back than the rather precarious arrangement on the 12GS. I really like the look of the luggage with the plastic corner protectors. The top box could be larger--maybe it will be possible to utilise the large right-hand side pannier as a bigger top box option. I imagine the plastic panniers from the 12GS could be transferred over if someone was happy with them.

I'm very glad they kept the split seat; hopefully the low seat off the 12GS will fit for those short arses amongst us.

Im a 1150 Adv owner :D

* I think the pillion perch will be much improved.

* The riders seat will probably be better than the 1150Adv seat as well as it can be both the low/high seat you currently have to buy seperately. Low for touring with airhawk, high for blatting :thumb

* Dont like the cut out in the pannier though..... not going to fit a helmet in there which is something I like about the current Adv panniers.

* The panniers still look positively enormous in the front profile, hopefully its not as wide as the current 1150Adv panniers.

* Heard nothing on the lower 1st gear which I always wish I'd had on my current 1150Adv. It is useful when your 2-up with luggage... like when we had to stop to traffic going up the steepest section of the pass of the cattle near Applecross

* It had better be lighter than the 1150Adv. We need weights fully fuelled including all the luggage for both models.

* Cleaning behind those head covers is going to be a twat

* Love the olive green colour scheme :thumb

* Not too sure about the little air defender things below the screen..... reminds me of an RT :eek

* Please, please can we have ABS without servos's. Even though I am a ABS advocate, my current bike will not be in my possesion when the warranty expires or if I dont pay for the 3rd year warranty. I'm just not gonna pay £1k for a broken servo.

Overall :thumb , but I'm not sure I'll be parting with my cash just yet.

Have to agree with Tober on this one...how many are going to use the ADV for its intended purpose or is it just for the status!

Me thinks the lat'er.

How many do? And since when has that been a requirement? If I have 10 grand burning a hole in my pocket and I want it isn't that reason enough?

This is a bike fer crissakes it's not meant to be serious.

ZX12R - 185+ MPH on 70MPH roads?
HP2 - £12K for an enduro bike?

I have a PD and it's neither been to Paris or Dakar and the only sand it's seen was when I went through some roadworks and there was some sharp sand spillage.

BMW haven't built a bike to fulfill peoples dreams only to enable them to have dreams and it will sell by the bucket load and will fill pub and cafe car parks the world over :D

Oh Bugger...

Bugger...
Bugger...
bugger....
BUGGER!

I was so relieved when I didn't like the 1200.

Bugger!!

Have they sorted the fork pinch bolts out? :dabone

Nuff said...........Judge..........spot on :thumb

Heart tells me that I want one. :thumb

Head tells me "you've just bought a new 12 you'll have to wait a bit" :(

Wife tells me "No f*****g chance pal!" :spitfire

Ah well I'll just have to be jealouse then. :grndevil

With any luck they'll be lots of goodies that I can fit on mine anyway (I love the look of the screen). :)

I'm wondering about lowering the exhaust (someone from the US posted pics) and then using a RHS pannier on the left. I would imagine the LHS pannier will take a helmet. I would rather have the space as I'm not so worried about the width.

I understand the 12GSA is the same as the 12GS, which is almost as low as the 1150GSA with the low gear option. Personally I would prefer an even lower first gear.

Expect the same weight differential between the 1150GSA and 12GSA and between the 1150GS and 12GS.

The 'olive green' is more of a silver, I think.

Looks good to me, just turned 20k in two years on the current adventure so have a good few years to go before I'll be on a 1200ADV but at least I know that there is a way forward from my fantastic 1150ADV.

PS I bought the adventure for the combined reasons that it looks good and to do a traverse of the Northern Sahara. Call me a poser, call me an adventurer, call me what you like, I don't care. :dabone

Think it looks ace!!!

Bet Charlie Borman, Euan McGregor are doing South America on theses.
Not rocket science from BMW, Standard 1200 for GS riders wanting a lighter machine or X Jap riders etc, new adventure for you hardened “GS” riders.

Biggest losers KTM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dabone

Looks very nice - I think that it's a big improvement in style over the old 1150 Adventure - (quickly ducks behind desk!). Just hope that they have fixed the brakes to silence the critics.

BMW intentions are that people should buy it and they will almost certainly succeed - they seem to be creating a new market for this type of machine - good luck to them!

Bloody ell, they must have been designing it all night to get the balance so spot on!! It stands up on its own
who really wants to do 450+ miles in one go
Me, I commute daily and have to stop for fuel every four days. With a tank like that I could go for nearly two weeks :thumb

And the new version, designed for hardcore adventure riders who want to emulate Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s Long Way Round journey, looks....

What a load of bollocks!! You've got to love these marketing types though.....

Anyway.... Am I the only person who is underwhelmed? I prefer the standard 12 to this - it looks even more bloated than the 1150ADV does to the standard 1150? There's something about those crash bars that says 'Honda' to me, and why the silly tank range?! 99% of these'll never leave the country let alone risk running out of unleaded 400 miles from the nearest outpost!!

Like the bars though... and the seat.

Not sure.....

Okay, Okay,... form an orderly queue.

spose I'll 'ave to take one of your old (gay) standard 1200's off yer hands (cheap of course) :dabone

I'm more for removing bits from my 1200 to make it lighter, faster, nimbler, rather than getting an overfed lardarse bike with a million things bolted onto it.

.

Well said , i thought i was the only person taking things off their bike, instead of adding bits - The more you know, the less you need . ;)

It looks better than a standard 1200GS, but i like riding my bike, not looking at it .

Missing Picture?

Tim
On the first set of pitures is there one missing between the 3rd and 4th.
Not that it makes a great deal of difference.

Pictures released.
Dealer called.
Deposit paid.

Roll on March.

Just any other piccy's to oggle will help the waiting.

Many thanks for the post BTW. :thumb

:clap :clap

Looks better than I expected, but won't be worth a light off road unless there is a lower first gear option. Anyony tried to do a hill start on gravel/rocks/loose stuff with the standard 1200? That's what I mean.

Would have it like a shot with the lower box as per the old Adv. :)

Cheers

Roger
