After the journey from Hull yesterday I feel the need to ask a few questions of the other GSA riders out there.

The screen, does anyone else find it noisy behind there? I am only 5’8 on a low seat so I don’t know if that might be making the problem worse.

The seat – now without wishing to gross anyone out, is there any way of stopping that ‘sweaty a#se’ feeling.

Now it was a hot day, but I now feel after 7 hours in the saddle that I could use some of my sons sudocream!!!! :ymca

Am I the only one witht these problems? I even tried riding with the screen off, not a wise idea in Lincolnshire – the worlds windiest county!!!

I don't find the screen too noisey, certainly very similar to the tall vunderbra on i had fitted to the GS, its a bit too effective at keeping the breeze off during the hot weather at the moment, I'm 5'10" with the standard seat set low and the screen in the most upright position with no mods.

Seat seems fine at the moment, the rukka trousers I use have a comfort insert in the seat so this may help, I'm off to achill at the w/e so I may post a different story on return, one thing I have noticed is that if I nip out without my overtrousers, me wedding tackle seems to get caught/crushed on the front of the seat  so an even better reason for ATGATT :D

As a general comfort thing for longdistance riding I find long legged snug fitting seamless underwear an improvement :thumb

I am 5'-7" and also have a low seat and find the screen best in the lowest setting of next one up have no buffetting and can ride with visor up no problems apart from the insects in your face

as for the seat i use cycling shorts on long journeys for extra comfort when using ralley 2 pants

Gotta agree with you there.
To stop that arseburn feeling invest in a decent base layer.

I am starting to think it might be me with the buffetting, i am used to a gixer so i guess anything without wind tunnel aerodynamics is going to seem worse!!!

Hi, I was doing 3 - 400 mile days around Scotland last week and had no great problems with the seat that I wouldnt have expected on a long journey. I was taking breaks every couple of hours and was beginning to get itchy by then. Im 6'2" and have the seat on the high setting with the screen one down from the highest setting. I did get some buffeting but only when doing 85+. Dropping back to 80 it was fine.

This was my first long trip on the bike and I was well impressed with its performance and comfort. :thumb

I think the screen is very noisy but I haven't messed with it yet. No bum problems either because I haven't been far enough....too hot!
If and when I do get problems I may try http://www.beadrider.com, I remember once driving a car in winter with those bloody bead things on the seat and my bum froze so clearly they work!

Did 2 300 mile days to get enough mileage on the bike to get it serviced the screen for me is the best ive had on any GS and ive had them all so no complaints with that, :thumb the low seat is the same but ive fitted a airhawk which has almost no air in it and not even a twinge the airhawk is the best money ive ever spent on any bike well worth it

i am 5`8", ish and with the 12 low seat,, No problems yet apart from the shape of the seat being a bit curvy against my b/side??.
The screen was in a middle position when i picked the bike up and had no probs with it either, my last bike 1150GS, a proper bufit king until i fitted a MRA.
The 12 ADV is purfect so far!!. :thumb

5ft 6in GSA fitted with low seat, screen still in the same position as it came from the dealer. Never had a problem with wind noise but the arse does get a bit sore after 150 miles

Note to self must by some cycling shorts :thumb

I love my GSA :bounce1 :clap

Scottykm - its not just you. I'm 5'11" and find I get a lot of buffeting around the head and hence wind noise on my 12GSA. If I lower my head a couple of inches, all the noise stops but it ain't comfy to be in that position. I had 12 12GS before with the Nippy Normans screen which I found perfect on that bike. The Nippy screen is taller than the GSA screen and I ordered one on sale or return to see what it looked like on the GSA, but I only held it up to the bike before realising its going to look very silly on this bike, so I sent it back.

However, I am on the look out for something that is an inch or two higher than the GSA screen and not having much luck. Pointers anyone?

duck down and slow down :bounce1

sorry had to do it

same here any cheap solutions

I think that the 'sore arse' syndrom is definitely made worse in high temperatures (no matter what seat you have).

What you wear under your strides also has a big effect and the wrong choice makes it worse.

Yeah right!!!!!

thats the reason i got this bike, to be just as quick, but with more comfort, sat up at 90 instead of tucked in. have dropped my screen a notch, seems to have helped, just need some comfy under shorts!!!

anyone used a sheepskin on the seat? seen a few, they do look a bit daft but if it helps on long distance...... :rob

Sweaty lower regions

I agree with get the right undergarments - big help.

Also try BeadRiders http://www.beadrider.com/ they look stupid but they let the air circulate and help keep the boys cool. Also help when it rains. I used them on mt LT because of the crap seat helped those 1,000 mile days bearable. I have a Sargent on the GS so I haven't used the Beadriders until this last week when we had a string of 100F degree days, the BeadRiders really helped.

As a cheap fix ... you might like to mod the screen adjusters ...

I'm 6' 2" and found that it was a little buffety behind the screen ... at about 4/500 miles I modded the screen adjusters by removing them, cutting an extra pair of grooves in them (and removing the locating lugs), then remounting. That gives me two more adjustment stops toward upright ... now covered 10k and am delighted to report no significant buffeting at speeds upto 100mph, with full luggage and passenger.

BTW, in case anyone is worrying about stability without the lugs, I was happy enough to mount my GPS via a Motorrad mount on the upper bar and its survived 6k like that with no vibration issues ...

Worth a try as it'll only cost pence for new lugs if it doesn't work ...

Sounds interesting, but any chance of a photo? I don't quite get the full picture from your text.

yes please for a photo

OK, I'll take some shots tonight and upload them ...

Simply ... unscrew the screen adjuster, remove the knurled nut, behind the screen (captive between screen and metal bracket) is a shaped plastic washer. The washer is grooved or notched, this is to align with the adjustment ridges on the metal bracket. If you experiment you'll find that your adjustment range is restricted somewhat, ie. you cannot utilise the upper two positions. Remove the washer from its slot, then take a junior hacksaw and remove the upper locating lug (its this lug in the alignment groove that is restricting your use of the upper two positions). Then cut a new parallel groove in the washer face where the lug was previously.

5 mins per side with a hacksaw, two butchered washers and a much quieter ride.

BTW, it'll probably take more time to remove/refit the washers than butcher them as its a fiddley job ...

Low seat

Back to another strand in this thread - to which low seat are people referring to?

One off a standard GS?

If so, does it fit 'perfectly' a dealer told me yesterday that people had commented that it wasn't the same shape so didn't follow the contours of the bike very well?

(I'm asking for advice in another thread)
