Just fitted a 12v socket to the visible battery connections under the right side panel on my 2016 GSA.
Thought it would be always live, but appears only to be live with ignition on?
Set it up for my airman pump so's to bypass the canbus restriction.
Have i done it right, or do I need to connect direct to the battery terminals properly to bypass?

Should be fine, it's the same way I have done mine.... have you got an inline fuse on the positive wire?. 7.5amp will be ok.

Aye thanks for that, have an inline fuse too, but it's a 10 amp, reckon I need to drop to the 7.5amp?
Likely I'll only ever use it for the Airman. though suppose I may use heated vest/gloves next winter.

I connected aux lead to the negative battery terminal and the positive post to the right of the battery.
The post connects to the positive side and is for jump starting the bike afaik.
It is connected directly to the battery this way and can be used to connect a standard battery tender
as well as being outside the CanBus.
I have an SAE connector on the lead with same on my mini compressor and Optimate.
It hides nicely under the seat.

That's the way I wired my Airman compressor up, it works a treat.....:thumb2

Thanks all for the replies, helped assure me I've done it right.
The DIN socket is tucked neatly under my seat ready for use if needed, along with Touratech toolbox, airman and puncture kit.
But......
I'm confused that if it's connected directly to the battery - why no power to the din socket until I've switched the ignition on?:nenau
Not a problem for me, just trying to understand.
I'm very much a duffer with electrics, but this din socket was originally on my GSX1400 direct to the battery where it was always live and ready to be used with ignition on OR off.
So somehow the clever BMW 'red jump starter lead' closes that 'leak' off?
AND keeps it outside of the CanBus system?
IF I get any replies to this, just a simple YES or No will do - I'm a duffer remember?
And of course, if ever I do use the airman, it'd always be with the engine running too anyway. :)

I tested it with a simple lightbulb and 2 wires.
Didn't light when I tested with ignition off (twice) but did light when I turned ignition on.
Like you Phil, I thought it'd be live always.
Will have to try again with the airman, just in case I didn't quite connect the wires to the din perfectly those first two tries.

If I put my KTM trickle charger to the post it also doesn't work. (2014GSA)

If the new DIN socket is live only when ignition is on you really can't have connected it directly to the battery. Eyelet rings on the connecting wires put under the battery terminal screws can only be live all the time.

Sent somehow.

I attached scan of the manual page regarding jump strating.
This shows the always on positive terminal.
They possibly changed the wiring. This is for a 2016 GS TE.
Only other solution is to pull thge battery and connect lead directly to + terminal.
Hope this helps
