Having a senior moment. Haven't seen my bike in 6 weeks as it's on its way to Chile by boat - we will be reunited on Friday :-)
So packing bits and bobs and thinking oh yeh I'll bring my mini tyre inflator but....
Can't remember if my bike has a 12 volt plug in?
Does anyone know?

Good to see you prepped well and know your bike inside out:augie

There is a 12v plug underneath the seat on the near side. It has a BMW plug on it so make sure your inflator has the right plug or get an adaptor.

Oh so it has a seat! Thanks guys

Just be aware that the bike socket may cut out when you run your tyre inflator through it. I'm sure a grown up will be along to explain why but it's something to do with the amp draw and the Canbus doesn't like it. I have a separate 12v socket with a fuse wired straight to the battery for this purpose.:thumby:

Hi

You should probably put crocodile clips on the inflator so you can connect directly to the battery, or get an appropriate socket with clips, as you may find it touch and go as to whether the underseat socket can supply enough current. If your inflator needs more than, I think, 5 amp it won't run.

Have a good trip.

Thanks

Thanks to all. And particularly the advise on battery connection. The inflator is a bulky piece of kit I'd rather not be carrying but experience of the remoter parts of South America tells me that reliable air at services stations is non existent in some of the more remote parts, particularly when you deflate for sand and needs to reinflate when you find the next bit of road in the middl of no where. The guy you buy petrol from the container at the back of his house doesn't usually have a compressor.
Thanks again

Get some of Neutrik Speakon connectors. They twist to lock so wont fall out and can be connected direct to battery. Available in male, female inline and panel mounts and with various numbers of contacts.

UK http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/neutrik-speakon

A panel mount on a pannier case will allow a laptop or camera to be charged while riding but won't leak when it rains and much neater than a dangling wire through a grommit.
